Who's on reverse camber/reverse sidecut skis?

I just got my new 185 Praxis in the mail this morning. They're gorgeous - and HUGE!

Can't wait to try them out!

Who else is on Praxis, Spatulas, Pontoons, etc.?

I have no real reason for one in Michigan, so the answer is no.
But, I really want to hear more about them and your experience on them.

Do tell!!

Where's cloudpeak?

I've only skied on spatulas before at a demo day. They're very fun and confidence inspiring, provided you can sink into the snow a little bit.

I had to remind myself how much I loved skiing those spatulas and how easy they were to turn when I pulled the Praxis out of the box today. They're several inches over the top of my head and ridiculously fat and I had a second of "whoa, am I going to kill myself on these or what!"

I'm dying to try them but I know I shouldn't take them out until we get more snow.... so, so hard to wait!!

:brick:

Yeah, that's me being jealous.

I haven't tried any of the reverse camber skis, but everyone I know that has them absolutely loves them. I'd like to try them out at some point.

Altagirl, could you post a picture? We're dying to see them!

So here are a few pictures (they're still in the plastic, sorry about the glare)

Info from the website:
"Continuous Curves Rocker: The rocker has no flat spots. Instead it flows from a greater curve in the tip to a lesser curve in the mid and tail sections of the ski. This adds to the skis variable turn radius and allows the ski to dive out of a turn with a variety of projection.

Reverse side cut: Consistent reverse side cut for a smooth variable turn radius. Minimal taper in the tip keeps the tips on the surface and allows for easier traversing.

Bullet proof 9mm UHMW sidewall construction with a poplar and ash wood core

360 degree 2.2 mm edge. Thick and durable sintered bases.

The flex pattern has a solid oversized underfoot platform with short plush section in the tail and a softer tip. The tail makes the ski more forgiving and the softer tip makes the ski want to surface in powder when pressured. "

Dimensions are:
175cm 117,121,111
185cm 124,136,131
195cm 124,136,131

Are we ready for 08 Quiver pics!?
Those are beautiful!
I can't wait to read the review when you get on them.

Nice skis, AG!
So, what kind of bindings are you looking at for those monsters?

I have 3 pairs of Rossi Axial 120s in the garage to choose from. And one set of brakes that were on my Big Stix 106 which look like I should be able to bend them out sufficiently to work.

Okay, so I finally used the new Praxis today!

I borrowed a friends old Spatulas and used those for the last few powder days and today I crossed my fingers and hoped for sufficient coverage on the T and pulled out the new skis.

Anyway, the Spatulas were a bit of an adjustment, though it wasn't too bad. If you drive the tips and try to carve on hardpack, they basically go the opposite of where you were steering... not good. But you can carve the tails or stay centered and skid them and they feel normal. In powder, or anythign you can sink into about an inch or so, they are wonderful and ski pretty much normally.

On both the float is obviously excellent, and because of the reverse camber, the tips resist diving much better than any other fat ski. The reverse camber also makes it very easy to swing them around in tight trees or heavy or deep snow where your tips and tails would otherwise catch.

The Praxis are much lighter in weight than the Spatulas, and this morning I basically didn't feel tired all compared to doing the same runs on Spatulas last weekend. They also have less reverse sidecut, which makes them significantly easier to handle on traverses or high speed runouts.

The first run of the morning was still a little tough though - we had about 10" of fresh fluffy snow, but it's on top of large ice bumps. They still don't float enough to keep you on top of everything so the unseen ice bumps were brutal, just like they would be on anything else. But when I got into some areas that weren't bumped under the fresh snow, these skis were an absolute blast. And even later in the morning when we were skiing tracked out bumps (i.e. where you could actually tell what was going to be a fluff pillow vs. a hidden ice bump) they're really good for those too if you like the technique of shaving off the top of a bump or sliding down the backside of bumps.

Anyway, I'm very happy with them so far. Can't wait to ski them again tomorrow!

YAY!!!

Today my husband and I headed up to Alta at about 1:30 for an afternoon of skiing. It snowed some but the wind was HOWLING. Which equals windbuff. Windbuff can be tricky on normal skis - it's heavy and can be a little inconsistent. But my husband has been raving about how much fun reverse camber skis are on windbuff.

And he's totally right! It was perfect. Effortless. Mmmm.... butter.

I love my new skis!

What length did you get, bklyn?

After all the raving, I had to check out the website. I like the sunset trees graphics the best-- nice choice! Oh, and they make a 175cm, which would probably be just about right for a big powder ski for me...hmm....!:p

Sweet! We've had a couple chairs lately that were half black smoke and half sunset trees. Those graphics are sweet.

Hope to see you out here skiing them soon!
For sure in Feb. I might need to get a new ski bag to fit them.
Where did you mount yours?

Luckily Drew works at the shop down the street from my office. So I just went with trusting his judgement on mounting them for me.

I can measure it to see what it is, but whatever it is - they're fantastic and he did it right!

Hello altagirl and bklyn and Lori_K, I'm happy to meet some reverse camber/sidecut divas...for 2 years I thought I was the only one. And I love, love, love my reverse camber skis, anytime it looks like over 6" new and not too many cars in the parking lot.

I had these custom-made 2 years ago after seeing what a pair of Spatulas did for my husband's skiing...but I wanted something shorter and lighter. Greg at Capital Skis in Pemberton made them and has since added them to his lineup as the "G-Funkenstein Lite". According to Greg's website the dimensions are: 170cm/127mm/135mm/104mm (length/tip/waist/tail).
