Who hits up the terrain parks, and how did you start?

Just as the title states...who hits up the terrain parks at the hill and how did you start out? Rails? Jumps?

What skis do you use?

I have my second freestyle lesson tomorrow at Okemo (my first was at Stratton last season). I use Solomon Mynx twin tips for skiing freestyle and switch. I'm interested in jumps, skiing switch, and possible some pipe skiing. Boxes maybe, but rails scare me as they are very injury prone and can really trash skis. Mostly I want to use my freestyle skills to help me become a better all mountain skier.

I played in the park a bit with my nephew as he grew up. Seems he and his buddies spent hours contemplating their next move.

I never got as comfortable with air time as they were, but hope to change that as I tackle that 360 I promised myself I'd do when I turned 40.

I'd love to hear about your lessons! What do they teach you about doing jumps??

Snowhot...how long do you have to complete this task?? lol

We focused more on balance and other skills today. Switch skiing, jumps and other features will come later. Loved my coach's skiing style and found his teaching style and company very enjoyable and low key. I hope to ski with him again in a few weeks, and when I start getting into features in the park, I'll post again! Safety is such an important issue for me as a Mom/stepmom and self-employed person, so I was pleased with this approach.

I like the way you think!

I'm also interested in knowing how your lesson goes.

I did some baby jumps way back when. I LOVE the air time. I never did anything in the air though. Not that the hang time was long enought for me to 'do' anything anyway. :p

I'm thinking more on knowing what to do if, God forbid, I found myself accidentally skiing off a small rock face, cornies or something. Same for skiing backwards. It had already happened once or twice without my planning it. :( So I might as well learn how to do it properly and have fun, right?

Precisely.

I love to ski backwards, though I don't have the skill down enough to do it on anything other than a green run of groomed, packed powder. Freestyle skiing resonates with me more than any other style of skiing. I'm in the process of developing my own style as a skier and want to move in that direction. I also love the scene in the park. Watching the kids using the T-bar today to pull up to the Sobe superpipe was a kick -- it was so warm that some had no shirts on! And I love the music at the competitions.... I guess I'm just a kid at heart!

I've resolved to take some freestyle lessons this year due to the 2 following incidents:

2 years ago, I was teaching and my student (a 10 yr old boy) wanted to play in the park. We tried to slide the "baby" box. He made it. I did a spread eagle-to-belly flop off the end. It was a spectacular move and the very first thing he told his Dad when we met back up at the end of the lesson. I got a decent tip for "added entertainment value", but it was still embarassing.

Last week, I trashed my race skis by flying off a roller and landing awkwardly.
