Whiteface 1/19...Clothing Optional *Pics*

My b-day was a lil' snowy and alot of fun. We headed to Whiteface @ 7:00 and arrived about 8:30, parked on the access road and headed in. Think we were skiing by about 9:15. Skier Cross World Cup finals on the face below the lift added some entertainment on the way up!

It's really quite amazing and I have no idea why I didn't think to take any pics. of the racing..oh well.

So Whiteface is definitely a mountain you want to ski early, plenty of steep trails and ice soo the afternoons can be a little sketchy. With that in mind we checked out the new expansion. Variable snow conditions and low light made this a little bit dangerous as there are cliffs without safety nets on the side yet.

We skied all over the mountain, the sun even poked out for a few minutes now and then, but generally it just snowed and stayed calm wind wise, always a plus at WF!

At the top of Little Whiteface we saw some guy modeling....or something. So we started down and were passed by a bunch of guys who decided that 15 degrees and snow were warm enough to ditch the jackets. Ski patrol thought otherwise.....

Part of the last run of the day, dark, visibility was a little iffy all day (not bad here), looking down Lower Wilderness, still decent coverage:

As you can see it was very busy, not! It really cleared out after lunch and skier cross, the afternoon was wide open; we called it a day at about 3:00.

Great pics, THANKS! Whiteface looks awesome -- have never had a chance to ski there but would love the uncrowded slopes.

It's a great mountain when there is snow...it's not too congested unless you try a holiday week...the proximity to Lake Placid makes it prime vacationing. I think the week after Pres. week the Canadian schools are off...I made that mistake last year haha.

The intermediate terrain is not the greatest, however if you like steep and long it's hard to beat. During the spring it's amazing, especially if the slides open!
