Ski Diva Extraordinaire
My b-day was a lil' snowy and alot of fun. We headed to Whiteface @ 7:00 and arrived about 8:30, parked on the access road and headed in. Think we were skiing by about 9:15. Skier Cross World Cup finals on the face below the lift added some entertainment on the way up!
It's really quite amazing and I have no idea why I didn't think to take any pics. of the racing..oh well.
So Whiteface is definitely a mountain you want to ski early, plenty of steep trails and ice soo the afternoons can be a little sketchy. With that in mind we checked out the new expansion. Variable snow conditions and low light made this a little bit dangerous as there are cliffs without safety nets on the side yet.
We skied all over the mountain, the sun even poked out for a few minutes now and then, but generally it just snowed and stayed calm wind wise, always a plus at WF!
At the top of Little Whiteface we saw some guy modeling....or something. So we started down and were passed by a bunch of guys who decided that 15 degrees and snow were warm enough to ditch the jackets. Ski patrol thought otherwise.....
On to better views....a bit below the summit:
Off of the Summit Chair:
Peeps heading down Excelsior on Little Whiteface:
Part of the last run of the day, dark, visibility was a little iffy all day (not bad here), looking down Lower Wilderness, still decent coverage:
Mr. VL and the evil eye on Upper Wilderness:
Me, looking up Upper Wilderness:
As you can see it was very busy, not! It really cleared out after lunch and skier cross, the afternoon was wide open; we called it a day at about 3:00.
