White Hot Chocolate!

Yesterday when skiing I stopped at the gourmet coffee shop for a little warm up. I decided to have their specialty "White Hot Chocolate"

OMG, it is the BEST cup of cocoa I've ever had!
Since women often compare chocolate addiction to sex, I'd say this was like an orgasm in a paper cup!

Has anyone here had the pleasure!?

I hear that they have White Hot Chocolate at Dunkin Donuts that is fairly amazing. If you have a DD near you, check it out.

Agreed. White hot chocolate is fantastic. I get it at a few coffee shops and I make my own at home. The one at Dunkin Donuts is really good, though it's a bit different from the coffeeshop kind. At Dunkin Donuts I sometimes get it mixed: white hot chocolate and regular hot chocolate, delicious!

It's snowing a storm in DC (mwahaha - weathermen were predicting wintry mix....but it's been all snow since 9AM! yay!). I am tempted to walk up the block to the DD to pick up a white hot chocolate!

I was looking for information on buying white hot chocolate for home consumption, and found this recipe.

White Hot Chocolate Mix

This makes a fabulous and inexpensive gift to give, along with some pretty migs, stirring spoons, and napkins in a pretty gift basket.
INGREDIENTS:

* 1 tsp. vanilla powder
* 1 tsp. dried orange peel
* 1 cup grated white chocolate

PREPARATION:
In a small bowl, combine all ingredients. Store in an airtight container in a cool dark place.

To make White Hot Chocolate for Two:

1-1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup White Hot Chocolate Mix

In a small saucepan, heat the milk until bubbles form around edges

We have a gourmet company from Quebec called Gourmet Village - from Morin Heights. They make it in a pouch to add to hot water or milk. Absolutely fabulous!! Pick it up with other stuff at a local tea and coffee shoppe.

I made the recipe posted above!
Do yourself a favor and make some for yourself;)
The orange peal doesn't really make it taste orangy but adds the tiniest essence.
I found a gourmet cooking shop that has vanilla powder but this would be equally as good if you make it at home with real vanilla.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

I haven't tried the recipe you posted yet, though I have a pretty similar one of my own. I'm all about the variations, today I did one of my favorites- basic white hot chocolate topped with tahitian vanilla whipped cream (homemade-worth the little extra effort!) swirled with raspberry puree (make it fresh in the blender).

Since some of us are in the doldrums this weekend, I thought I bump up SnowHot's recipe. This is fabulous. Try it Diva's!!

I seriously foresee a trip to DD for me today (finally! a franchise that exists in my rural locale)---as a welcome break from the task at hand: taxes... ....and if I do not disable my dsl for the rest of the day, aforementioned task will never get completed.

Dunkin' Donuts, here I come!

Oh Great, Now I gotta make some hot chocolate.

Just a pinch of cinnamon and chili pepper really gives this some zing!

I had to have some last night. But no milk. So, I tried the commerical mix from Gourmet Village. I like the home made better. Next time I'll grate the chocolate instead of using the "chiclets".

I've been eying the Milky Way hot chocolate at Dunkin Donuts but I haven't tried it yet and didn't know if it would be too sweet. I love rich and creamy but like to keep the sweetness on the low side. As for coffee there, recently I've been getting the extra bold dark vanilla spice coffee. If you like coffee, it's quite yummy.

I agree with SnowHot, adding spice to the hot chocolate is great. Another one I like doing is half milk chocolate half white chocolate with cayenne pepper and vanilla bean.

You guys don't want to try the new Tim Hortons Preminum Hot Chocolate. We also are a test market for espresso based coffee and a cafe mocha. I told them 6 months ago to launch it across the country. It is so good. Better than Starbucks!!

Great, now I've got to get over to TH's, too. This thread is dangerous to my diet  -- one more suggestion in my inbox and I will be forced to unsubscribe!!! TOO tempting....

Who can say no to chocolate?

Anyone got a recipe without the oranges? I'm allergic to it, unfortunately :(

Over on the epicski they have a forum thread for recipes. Maybe we should have something similar, since I've seen a lot of exciting recipes in different threads lately. :becky:

Here's Martha Stewart's recipe:

2 cups of heavy cream
6 cups of whole milk
12 ounces white chocolate, finely chopped
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 block of dark chocolate

Using a vegetable peeler, shave chocolate into curls; set aside.

Place white chocolate in a medium heat-proof bowl; set aside. Place milk and cream in a medium saucepan set over medium heat until bubbles begin to form around edges of pan (about 4 minutes). Do not boil.

Remove mixture from the flame. Immediately pour over white chocolate. When chocolate begins to melt, gently stir to combine.

Whisk in vanilla. Continue whisking until light foam forms.

Garnish with dark chocolate curls
