Oddly enough, although Grand Targhee is known for a ski area where low visibility is often an issue because there aren't many trees, on a powder day there are some fun tree runs. The beginner area has very mellow stands of trees that are perfect for learning to deal with looking BETWEEN the trees. My ski buddies and I had a good time several years ago when we'd gotten a little tired by the afternoon. That trip we stayed in Jackson and did a day trip to GT.
Looking back at my first TR for GT, it's pretty clear my sense of what's fun and what's complicated has changed quite a bit. In 2013, even though it was a powder day with blue sky I mostly stuck to the groomers. GT hasn't really changed much. Although the quad for Blackfoot terrain is much nicer than the old, very slow, double chair.
