Which powder skis to demo, just for fun?

I'm going to Mt Baker on Monday, they just had 12ft of snow in about a week and it is still comming down. I will only be there 2 days and was thinking about renting a pair of fat or mid fat skis one day, just for fun.

I'm 5'3" and 185lb(I know WAY too much, but it is slowly going down) and a fairly aggressive skiier, I will be skiing with my brother and he pushes me to ski fast and try new stuff (he will be on his new Seth Vs).

I was considering either the Phat Luvs(160) or Lotta Luvs(153). Would another ski be a better choice? I'm not too familiar with the other brands. Maybe I should try the guys version instead? HELP!

Some of the review I have read mention the "K2 feel" what is that?

Try something unisex. Like the PE's or the Seths!

If you try the Public Enemies - let me know how you like them...I'm eyeing a pair of 174s.

The great traditional K2 feel (my fav) is smooth and very damp, but not sluggish or dead. Still lots of energy in the ski.

Thank you! I have been feeling guilty about being excited about the trip. The storm actually hit AFTER our airline tickets and plans were made, so I have been feeling lucky.

My aunt was diagnosed over 20+ years ago with breast cancer. She had a double masectomy, chemo & radiation and went into full remission until about 4 years ago. At the time, they gave her upto 2 years to live. She did live long enough to see her only son married and have a baby girl. This last year has been hard on her family seeing her deteriorate so rapily. We actually thought the funeral was going to be in June. I was able to take my mom up to see her for a week in July - her family said it ment a lot to her.

I changed my avatar for you! Feel free to copy the image if you'd like.

I'll keep you in my thoughts while you celebrate the life of someone you loved.

What better way to celebrate her life than to live yours on the slopes!! She'd be happy for you!

I'm back from my trip. Mt Baker was awsome!!!! I was there on Mon & Tues so no crowds. It snowed again on Mon. There was lots of soft fresh powder.
I tried out some Solomon park skis 160(no PE or Seths available) and I tried the Volkl Attiva A3 163 on Mon. I really liked the A3s, but the did vibrate quite a bit on the hard tracked out sections. The Solomon's were OK in the powder, PE would have been better.

Thank's for all your suggestions and help.

Did you try the 1080's or the ladies version - Mynx?? Or like me can't remember unless I write it down as soon as I give the skis back??

Yes, try the Salomon MYNX. Same catagory as k2, Lotta Luv which it's brother would be the Recon. Try the Nordica Olympia Victory.
If you want to try a unsex ski Volkl AC4, the womens version Attiva AC3

For the Fats I would suggest the k2 PHAT - 95 waist. but give the salomon scarlet a ride 94 wasit.
There really no bad ski out there these days!!!

If I were in your position, I'd demo the Phat luvs first and foremost.

And an added bonus - K2 donates part of the procedes from their luv skis to breast cancer reasearch.

I really wanted to try the PE, Lotta Luvs and the Phat Luvs, but Mt Baker didn't carry K2 rentals so I did try to pick some that were similar. The skis I have now are K2 and I have decided that I really like that K2 feel. I did really like the feel shape of the Attiva A3. My next ski will probably be the K2 equivalent (Lotta Luv), but I will make sure I ski them first, my local shop has them available for rent when I get the $$$.

The ski I currently use, K2 Axis XR turned out to be really great on the wide open groomed runs, but it took much more work in the powder & crud (no crud @ Baker this week, but I know what it does in the crud). I like the feel of the softer ski, especially in the softer stuff was way easier to really dig my edges in, something I have been strugling with.

If we have more natural snow this year, I will spend a lot more time working on learning how to ski the powder. It was so much fun to watch everyone ski it earlier this week, that I just have to put more effort into learning.
