Where to send my hard working parents?

Hi, all. I'm a new user here, and I'd like to send my extremely hard working parents on a nice ski vacation. They've been working very hard lately, and I think they could use to get away from it all. My mom in particular has been having a hard time, and my Dad seems to be feeling her pain. They're both beginners, but I think it'd be good to send them to a place with a great ski school, since they both have a need to excel at whatever they do. Would like to limit it to US locations.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi ChelseaC, welcome! Oh my, what a lovely gesture on your part. SO many choices! Quick questions: is this trip to happen yet this season? Where would they be traveling from? Is a driving trip preferred, or would they want to fly to destination? It's early yet for the CO divas, but I'm sure you are going to get 101 responses!! Give us a few more details so we can "go to town" with replies.

Wow, what a generous daughter you are!! It's getting late in the season, but there are some resorts still open out west in particular as MSL says. Beginners and ski school - I think Colorado, Utah or California (Squaw or Heavenly) depending on conditions. Is night life or good dining a priority? Do they want to see celebrities??

Thanks for your eagerness to help!

Quick answers:

Flights? No problem. They live in a major metro area and travel a lot anyhow.
Good dining? A must. Dad's a big eater, although he's kind of indiscriminate.
Night Life? Mom says no. But...
Celebrities? Hmmm. I guess a place where people often see 'em would be good.

Thanks again, everybody!

Well.....Vail just got over 17" of snow! :yahoo: FABULOUS Ski School! Great dining! Celebreties......you may see a few! GREAT night life!

I'm a little biased, but I would have said Vail even if I weren't! :D

The Tivoli Lodge is a PHENOMENAL place to stay!!! Slopeside!

I'd have to agree with NVG - Vail. Good dining, good skiing, great ski school and lots of things to do if not skiing. Begineers sometimes need a day off too. Hopefully the altitude won't affect them too much.
But then there is Whistler if they can travel out of the states. The Telus ski and snowboard festival is coming up. Great skiing and really good entertainment - bands. It's not that far from the border. But there is all that new travel crap with passports etc.

Vail would be good for sure. But if they really want to see (or be seen with) celebs I would think Aspen would be better there.

Now, if they need to by gear this is the time to do it since everything is on sale. Where do they live? We may be able to recommend a good shop for them to visit.

Some suggestions for Chelsea C.'s parents: If they are willing to travel internationally, they might consider Faraya Ski Resort - an hour from Beirut and the largest ski resort in the Middle East. That resort holds an annual show where shivering models show off the latest sexy styles and I have a hunch that would appeal to Chelsea's dad.

It might, but I don't think my mom would tolerate that. And they've had some passport problems lately, so I think they'd rather stay in the US.

As for gear, anyone know of a ski shop around Chautauqua, NY?

For a real treat for hardworking parents, that probably need a break from crowds and fast paced life, I would originally say Big Mountain. But I think they are closing soon. Perhaps Big Sky, they stay open later in the season, get great snow into April/May, but this late in the year you can ski up to the lift and sit down on the chair. No lines or crowds what-so-ever.

Isn't it Chappaqua?

There's a Chautauqua, NY, too! My friend used to go there to the artist's colony and paint and do woodcut prints. So I thought that's what she meant. . .

For parents who like a little relaxation mixed with a little glamour, I'd say Vail/Beaver Creek, Aspen, Sun Valley, or Jackson.

They're all quite different, and I have no idea what all of the relative closing days are this year, except at Vail, which is currently April 13. Last time they had snow this good, they extended. . . although I doubt they will this year, after talking to a couple of employees. Seems like when they extend, they don't have enough employees left or enough people visiting to recoup the cost of operation, so extending by a week or so is still in doubt.

Chautauqua, Chappaqua, they're so similar they make my head spin. Besides, my 'rents travel so much they're hardly home.
