What's your next gear purchase ('07 season)?

I'm pretty well set, equipment-wise (new boots AND skis this year), but I'd like a new pair of poles (lighter ones), plus a pair of goggles that won't fog up.

What about you?

I need new boots! I should have bought them last year, but it is a real must for 2007.

I might get another pair of skis for those rare powder days and trips out west. I've demoed some Heads, which I liked, but I still want to try the Volkl Auras before deciding. Any other suggestions for a fatter ski?

I also might need new boots before the end of next season. I'm currently in the Salmon XWave 9s which have been extensively custom fitted, but they may pack out fairly soon. I do have custom footbeds which will help make the transition to new boots a bit easier, but I still HATE the whole boot buying/fitting process, and would like to put it off for as long as I can.

This is a dangerous question for a gear junkie!
First New Poles, maybe some fat skis, (I'd really like to try the Elan Free spice but I understand its only offered in Europe), then I might see about getting a new jacket, I think my helmet is good, but I don't like my goggles, so I'll have to go shopping for new goggles that will go with my helmet. I got new mittens for cold weather days in 2006-07, but I may need to get a new pair of gloves.

But before all that, I need to get my Golf bag filled with just the right clubs!;)

Boots - already on order from the rep! Then, well let's see - new gloves/mitts for those -20 days, more top base layer, maybe a new helmet, (but I got the goggle problem fixed) and then maybe fat-all terrain skis (a vision breeze?? I still want those skis!! or a pair of Nordica Victory's if they are at the sale on Friday!!)

There are a lot of purchases I have lined up for this coming season. I'm telling myself that I'm not going to keep buying new stuff each season, I just so happen to need this stuff this time...right?

Let's see...

Goggles- I already picked them out, will probably buy them over the summer.

Helmet- I haven't made my mind up between a few of them.

Boots- The consensus is that my current boots are too soft. I'm not sure what I'm doing about them though. May ski the coming season with them and get something at an end of season sale. I really wish my bootfitter was open year round. I was planning on stopping in to see him before they closed up shop for the season, but they closed two weeks early this year since the hills around here had an early end to the season, so I missed him :( .

Skis- I'm due for an upgrade. There are many skis that I wish I'd gotten to demo. I'm a bit torn, as I want to demo before buying, so that'd mean waiting for the season. Then there are the great deals on skis that I'm considering, like the loved by many fischer vision 70. Is it worth the risk? Dun dun dun, what's a girl to do?

Semi-ski purchase- I've been thinking about getting a gps/heart rate monitor dealie for multi sport use. Not high priority at all, but I'd snatch one up if there was a SAC deal.

At least I'm keeping my poles!

num - make sure the goggles and hemet work together. Mine didn't, so it was 3 pairs till I found something that did work.

OOOO!

Indeed I'm not quite a gear-aholic but I am a bargain junkie. Much of my current gear that I love was bought on OMG what a great deal AND its something I want! (2 sets of skis, helmet, goggles, jacket...)

However there are potentially 2 items on my list for next season.

Set of northface shell pants for warmer days.

New boots. It seems like I may be out growing my boots - they're not packed out and probably won't be but it seems like I may need something less soft soon - I have Nordica W8Ws that I learned in. They're not super soft and they fit me quite well but I might just be exceeding them soon.

I am quite happy with the rest of my gear... (well perhaps until I find another OMG deal in which case the bargain hunter demon will appear and demand to be fed!

I had the same dilema and I even started a thread about it a couple weeks ago. Nobody answered my question. I think no one has the answer. So I decided I'll get them without demoing! At half off, I think I can flip them without lossing much if it turns out I don't like them.

Anyway, my list is:

1) ski(s), 2) helmet, 3) goggle, 4) gloves, 5) face mask, 6) more socks

But I'm getting petty here. Socks and such are not "big ticket items" anyway. And for that matter, even 2-4 put togather isn't at the level of 1 alone!

Fortunately, my boots are new and feels pretty good. So, one big thing out of the way.

At least I'm keeping my poles!
You haven't read that thread on lighter poles, obviously! ;)

Shopping List

Hmmmmm,

I have 2 new pair of skis for next season that I added to my quiver at the end of this season when everything went on sale (haven't tried them yet): the Volkl Attiva AC2 (for mellow days with my kids, early season, and out West where the snow is soft for bumps, etc.), and Solomon Scarlets (a fat, powder ski). I'm really happy with my Attiva AC3s for East coast groomed and variable conditions, but I am planning to sell my Volkl Kayas (anyone interested?) and purchasing a pair of '08 Solomon Mynx skis for the park which I think will suit me better (better turning radius and all mountain ski).

I'm going to buy a ski bag for 2 pr. of skis to bring the AC2s and Scarlets to Big Sky in Montana in February '08.

I love my boots which I've used for 2 seasons, but they are heavy and hard to use with the twin tips when trying to do 180s, so my goal is to get a pair of boots that are lighter but can also drive my AC3s when I want stability and speed.

My goggles are great but after 2 seasons, the foam is getting tired so I'll replace them with the same brand: Smith Anthem. Mine aren't helmet compatible so I use an extender, and the new ones are helmet compatible which will be nice. I have 2 pair, one for bluebird days and one for flat light.

I'm all set with clothes, after spending a fortune and making some mistakes these past 2 seasons. I'll be looking for a ski/swap sale in Southern VT or Western MA to unload some great women's ski clothing that just didn't work for me for one reason or another. It's all packed away carefully now awaiting Fall.

And I bought some poles that I love, Solomon CT-1 poles. If I get into more tricks in the park and venture into the pipe, I might pick up a pair of shorter poles for tricks. Go big! (or go home)

Helmet and tune-ups seem to be working though I read a review of the newer Giro helmet and it sounded pretty sweet.

All set with mittens, gloves, Camelbacks.

My 10 year old is going to need new skis, poles, boots, jacket, and pants. Yikes. I think my 13 year old will just need a tune up for her board and everything will fit her next season (it was a little big this past season).

God this is an expensive sport! But oh, so worth it!:D

Sorry that no one responded to the thread, I'd definitely be interested in reading what experiences people have had buying without demoing, and how much people generally get back from selling skis they only used once or twice.

It's definitely tempting. Which skis did you get?

I bought some Auras this year without demoing, because I live in London, no mountains nearby, and they weren't available at any of the resorts I was visiting. So I had to get them off the net. Anyway, I read all the reviews, demoed some other skis but decided to take a risk. Enjoy volkls generally so figured it wasn't too big a problem. And I love them more than I can say. Have 2 other pairs of skis - volkl s5 titanium and k2 missdemeanors, neither of which got much use once the auras arrived. I still think demoing is best if possible, but if you can't do it, it may be worth taking the risk.

Bought too much kit last year, to feed the addiction. Still, in the coming season, I think I'll be buying some new skis with telemark bindings, maybe some new touring boots and some new goggles. But before then, it's the summer and I'd like a new road bike.

Pretty much all set, unless.....

I need a back up pair of GS race skis.

Otherwise, I'm all set.
Unless.......my current diet and newest weight-loss drugs continues to work as well as it has been. Then I'll need new pants, Under Armor, and speedsuits in a smaller size :D ! I already have jackets that I currently can't fit into. (Hubby says if I can reach my target weight, he'll take me on a full-blast shopping spree - and he LOVES to spend money on me!!).

Go for it!! I put on 5 lbs this winter. Add the 5 lbs I was trying to lose last fall = 10 + . But I'm not getting a shopping spree. I'll just fit into everything I own!!

first lift last call, how did you like the Misdemeanor, by the way? Do you used that for park only? Or do you take it out on the rest of the mountain?

Really like my missies, use them in the park and everywhere else. They've softened up over the two seasons I've had them and my mates who have them have said the same thing, but I'm pretty heavy (about 155) and have them in a tiny159 length, so maybe someone a bit lighter wouldn't have the same trouble. When I bought them I was warned that they aren't great on hardpack or the lovely icy patches we get in Europe so much. Find them fine, but I keep the edges nice and sharp and avoid detuning the tips when there isn't much snow. Fab ski to have when you don't want to try too hard because they are really easy to ski, but still fairly responsive. Anyone wanting something a bit stiffer - try the public enemy, they are great fun too.

Well I guess I've started on 2007-08 season buying. I was at a rep's sales today. Picked up a pair of Drop gloves that match my Rossi jacket, but are really for evenings out. Also purchased an Oakley purse for this summer and baseball cap. Now should I get the 07-08, 160 cm Nordica Victory's??? I can call the rep and see it they are still there. Its a 2 3/4 hr drive to get them, but the price js right and they're not used!!
