What's your favorite ski resort?

Could be your home mountain, or it could be the place you've only been to once or twice.

What's your favorite and why?

I love Steamboat. It's kind of tough to get to—which keeps the riff-raff away—and it's a little tricky to get around, but it's all worth it. The town is lots of fun, too. Not too built-up or commercial.

Hmmm...tough question.
Burke is where I grew up and there will always be a special place in my heart for it...but...I've got to say that Mad River Glen has become my favorite in the east. No place else can match the vibe of the place. The terrain is awesome..it keeps you on your toes.
I absolutely loved Alta out in Utah. Had my best ski experiece ever there. Highly recommended.

Until last ski season, Deer Valley was my favorite resort. I still love it for what it is, an incredible resort, with great food, awesome amenities, helpful employees, etc. I just got a little bored with the terrain last year.

I skied the Canyons for the first time last season and was really impressed with it. Maybe because I had heard so many bad things about it my expectations were lower, but I really liked it.

You know what, I can find something wonderful about any place I've skied right now since I'm jonesin to ski so badly!!!!!

Vail. There is no comparison. ;)

It's the one place we will always keep going back to. We got married there, so it will always be special for a lot of reasons.

I tend to go on atmosphere as much as anything - it's not even anything you can put your finger on. I like our local place, it jst feel nice even though there's only 40 km of pistes, this season will be our 6th going to Courchevel - it can burn a hole inj your pocket if you don't know where to go, but the general vibe is great, and the skiing is simply superb. People tend to avoid it because of the cost, but when someone on Snowheads was asking about it, there wasn't a single other negative comment about the place.

We're also going to Val d'Isere this season and I'm quite looking forward to seeing the Espace Killy.

We only had a day in St Anton with only abotu 3 pistes open so I'd like to go back there, but it's not far enough to spend a week there (it's only 2 hours so day-trippable)

Steamboat is by far the family favorite here. I also like The Canyons, but was last there about 5 years ago. I would like to take my kids to Deer Valley/ Park City/ Canyons but their school breaks don't really coincide with good skiing there (always the week before Easter - which is usually somewhere in the first two weeks of April.) Anyone here skied the Lake Tahoe area? That is on my list of places to visit.

I love Steamboat myself. I've been there three times. It's a great mountain and a great town with a terrific cowboy atmosphere.

I also like Snowmass a lot. Only been there once, and it was a blast. I'd love to go back.

In all the years of skiing I still think the best place we've skied is Europe. We've been to Espace Killy and 3 vallee's. After that it's Whistler, then maybe Tahoe. Tahoe was great for the weather and atomsphere

Jilly that's interesting - if we ever get across the pond to ski, Whistler and Heavenly are on the list

We bought a place recently in Chamonix, and we hope to move there one day. The atmosphere and history of the town is wonderful, and the scenery is just matchless in its drama, it's really special. I love the way that the town's full of different types of people - Japanese tour groups rubbing shoulders with people festooned with ice climbing gear. The Grands Montets area is my favourite - on a good day, it's just incredible.

The espace Killy is a brilliant place too - the views from the top of the Grande Motte are just amazing.

In the US, I had one of the best days ever at Arapahoe Basin - I really liked the low-key unpretentious feel, it was so friendly and the terrain is superb.

I'd like to find some similar places in France - I've heard Les Contamines recommended as a nice place.

That's very interesting, because we are going to Chamonix next February, but Arapahoe Basin would probably be one of my least favourite places, I really didn't like anything about it.

Chalk and cheese!

They couldn't be more different, could they?
I think perhaps a lot is down to the conditions - we had brilliant snow and lovely weather at Arapahoe Basin, and were with a really great bunch of people who knew it well and showed us around.

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time in Chamonix though - let me know when you're going - maybe we'll be there too!

Chaletlaforet - what do you say? Shall we expand these nice ladies' horizons (or turn them green!) by posting a piste map of the 3 Valleys? :D
