What's your favorite kind of trail?

Do you like 'em steep and full of moguls? Nice, broad groomers? Any good examples?

I think my favorites are classic New England -- (somewhat) narrow and twisting, with something new around every curve. I also like ones that roll. I love the feeling it gives me in the pit of my stomach.

What about you?

I like the trees! I am very fond of the trees at Jay peak. I also like big open cruisers for high speed carving. One of my favorite trails at Okemo is Sapphire first run in the morning!! Lots of rollers!!

A steep black diamond, groomed, fast snow, and empty. Just ease the tips into the fall line, wait for some speed, and then take no prisoners.

Hello everyone! Great idea for a forum, Ski Diva! Hope to stop by often.

I'd have to say a wide open untracked (preferably steep) powder field. Not many of them around but they can be found. Second would be a slightly tracked powder field.:D

I like steep blacks -- but no moguls! My knees can't take them. And I like interesting blues -- not the wide cruisers, but the ones that make you feel like you're going somewhere.

I absolutly love being first tracks.
That means courdoroy in Michigan, for the most part.
But on occasion I am blessed with 6 inches of powder.

gotta love it!

Just to be different ....
I love to ski under the guns. It can get deep and smooshy and bouncy and soft and fun. Most people stay away because the "snow" sticks to their goggles and blinds them, but I have a secret weapon.

I have this little thingy I put on the thumb of my mittens; it has elastic around it and so attaches easily. It's a little rectangular sponge with suede on one side. It takes care of the "snow" from the guns that sticks to my goggle lenses - I can just push the snow off with my thumb. I don't even have to stop skiing to clear the lenses. So even in New Hampshire WHERE IT DIDN'T SNOW WORTH BEANS LAST WINTER I can enjoy home made fluff, and have the slope almost all to myself.

Of course I love all the other trails too, steep and windy, narrow, wide and blue, black and skied off or just groomed. I don't like forests or iceymogulley runs yet, but I hope to like them one day.

My fav's anything that doesn't have ice!!. Groomed first thing - first tracks is great. Eastern powder - Jay style is great. Like Snowbird I really like them steep with no moguls. Lay out the carves and fly.

I'm with eng ch. An empty one!

My preferences... big open cruisers or long twisting trails. The cruisers to ski and the trails to simply enjoy life and the beautiful scenery. Makes me relax and smile just thinking about that beautiful scenery.

I too like to ski empty trails - they can be big wide trails, - or narrow twisty ones. I will go off in the trees if they aren't too close together. Sometimes I will do bump runs, but my knees aren't what they used to be so I try not to do too many.

I really, really hate crowded trails with people on all sides. It makes me feel closed in - and nervous.

Steep and deep trees, wide open powder bowls, classic New England narrow and winding trails that let you really experience the mountain. And, believe it or not, a perfectly groomed intermediate trail that makes you feel like you're gliding effortlessly down the mountain. Really, it's all about the dance with the mountain.

Powder - in a steep couloir just big enough to turn in, with a nice runout. Or well, any powder on a slope that's just at the right angle for the depth of the snow.

Or those weird windbuff days that we get where it it makes west rustler totally flat. It's like skiing a big field of chalk. Like a big groomer without the corduroy, and every time you go down it, by the time you get back the wind has scoured it clean again. It's the weirdest thing and happens a few times a year - nature turning one huge steep slope that normally gets bumpy into an enormous groomer... but better. It's mind-boggling how fast you can go.
