What will you ski on opening day?

Picture this: your first day out for the '07/'08 season. Will you

a) use your new skis that you've been dying to get out on ever since you brought them home from the ski shop at the end of last season(just gotta try 'em);

b) trot out your oldest, crappiest pair so you don't ding the bottoms of those fabulous beauties you spent your hard earned money on; or

3) use your skis from last season, which aren't new or old, but they're all you got so that's what you're going to use?

Probably 3!

But they're not all I've got....I just really like them!

Ya know -

If you take your new babies out on opening day, you won't have to spend the whole rest of the season stressing about when you'll be getting that first scratch on them  .

I skied on Attiva AC3s last year, and while they performed really well, there were days when I wish I had a less demanding ski. I read the reviews on this forum and elsewhere about the AC2s, and bought them after the season ended for a great price. I'm going to start the season with the AC2s. As the season progresses and I crave more speed, I'll break out the AC3s, but until then, I want to work on carving skills and good form on a mellower ski.

Yep!!!

Truth be told, I'm not planning to ski until X'mas at the earliest. More likely not until after New Year. So there's little worry about hitting any rocks on my new skis.

(Even if I do, that's what wax are for, right? ;) )

I skied my Lotta Luvs the first day. I bought them last March and finished the season on them.

I will most likely take out my rock skis (an old pair of Atomic R9 Ride), they work well enough, and I definitely don't worry about getting them scratched up.

If the conditions are really good, I will take out my Heads, I just don't want to screw up the bases if the conditions are marginal.

I will definitely be out on opening day. There is something really great about being out on opening day, and hate to miss it!

I'll probably take out the 08 Elan Wave Spice since I skied in marginal conditions on it in the spring.
But you know I'll have the whole quiver in the car, just in case I get the bug to try something else.
The other two I have that I'm dieing to get on are the Nordica Olympia Fire fox and the Blizzard Titan Eos.

#3. They're are I got. Hubby has 3 pairs, but I only have 1 pair.
Let us help you fix that.....:eyebrows:

I'll use my skis from last season for several reasons.

1) They sort of need a tune, so a few pebbles won't wreck a lovely new edge.

2)My new skis are for softer snow and powder, which is unlikely here in the east that early in the season

3) My new skis don't have the bindings mounted on them yet! That's at the top of my to do list for sure.

SnowHot I working on it. I have a demo clinic (yah a clinic to learn about ski testing!) and I'm making a short list. Since I ski the Rossi Z5's, I'm looking at the Salomon Xwing 10, more all mountain and then a twin tip - why not!. Through January the local store is getting Salomon, Atomic and Rossi in for demos. And I know the tech rep for Elan at Tremblant, so I can try anything there. TJBrk is on Heads this year, so I know he'll be after me to try those too. (just like the fischers last year!) So I'm working on it!!

I just picked up a Blizzard Titan EOS, in a 166. 88 mm waist which will be my replacement of the Karma.
It is really nice. Has some awesome features, and beautiful construction.
I'm impressed!!!

Hopefully I'll be doing a), but then my first day won't be until the Holidays at Jay so there should be some snow (though I may get my old skis tuned up just in case it's bare up there!).

I just pulled the trigger on a new pair of last season's Fischer Vision 70s, since you all recommended them so heartily, and I really needed a pair that was a bit more ski than what I had. Add that to my new Nordica Beast 10s (which I may be even more excited about than the skis) and I should be set up for the next few years at least!

3. Yeah, they're all I've got but that's how I roll, with one pair of tried and true skis. Just click into the bindings and go, go, go.

I skied on brand new skis from start to finish last year. I ended up with one base weld, during mid-season. Skis don't seem to be as tempermental as they use to be that is I don't find I get as many coreshots as I used to. I think some of the new bases are alot tougher than those of the past. So I think I will use either the new or old depending on what that day brings. No jinxes here....And Cyn, you gotta scrape and wax those skis before you store em, did you know the dirt even the microspecs can work their way into the bases of your skis when the temperature when you store them over the summer causes them to expand? This can actually cause your base to expand out farther than your edges. At the very minimum, scrape and clean them before you store them but they really should be waxed too.
