What to do for "skiing withdrawals"?

So what do the rest of you do after that last ski day of the season? In the past, I'd start catching up on unread SKI magazines from the season or other such reading... Obviously I do have a new solution this year: The Ski Divas! Other ideas?

I'm not sure there's a "cure". :eyebrows: As for me, after a truly lousy slush day on the slopes yesterday, I'm starting to mentally shift towards summer things....get out the mountain bikes, thinking of a nice trip to the coast to bike along the ocean (I live in the mountains, so I'm always up for a beachside trip), maybe even use some of our air miles to go to Maui for some snorkeling and diving. All the "warm" weather activities are starting to look appealing at this point.....ALTHOUGH.....we're going to a reunion up in Seattle in July, so I'm pretty sure we'll also be stopping at Mt. Hood for a couple of hours just for the fun of it!!!! Can't keep a Ski diva away from skis for too long!!! :ski2:

We've been watching a bunch of ski movies (both serious and comedies). It takes the edge off during the transition.

Geez, as this is my first ski season, I find I'm having withdrawal. We did our last ski trip this past Wednesday. The next day, I put the skis/boots away, washed all the ski clothing and have to put it away tomorrow. Since it was break week, I spent the first two days thoroughly cleaning my house. Today, I went XC skiing at 8:30 AM (still about 2 weeks left of that:smile: ) Took my mt bike in for it's yearly tuneup and cleaned my car. I'm looking at a dirty closet, but that might have to wait until I'm done with school.

Such a satisfying break week:yahoo:

I was going to start a thread on this myself, with a slightly different twist: do you suffer from end of ski season depression?

I'm afraid I do. I HATE to see it end  . And though I've tried and tried, no other off-season activity gives me nearly as much pleasure. In October I bought myself a new road bike, so maybe that'll do it.

Yes, I am active the rest of the year, too. I try to run my "water seasons" as close together as possible. I have a heated pool that I'll open after the steeplechase races April 19th; I typically swim 1-2 miles daily. And I'll be planting a vegetable garden just before the races with flowers during initial poolshocking time. I keep the pool open until about Oct. 15-16 then rake leaves until the slopes in NC open in Nov.. Opening days to about 12/15 is the best time to ski in NC each year! It's cheap, there's not crowed, no ice... Actually we were to ride horses in the state park yesterday and the ski club planned to hike today, but it's pouring for the third consecutive day so both were put off for nicer days. As for biking, I'm not a serious rider at this point. Every morning I ride about five miles each way to the town dock on a perfect waterfront bike path when I'm at my Dad's in FL and I ride a shorter town rodes route, mostly flat, when I'm in Vt in the summer, but I don't do a lot here. I'm wondering if it's because I'm basically on antique bikes in all three places and have promised myself a new one in the coming months with emphasis on shock absorbers, since fanny fatigue is a major deterent for me. I've been invited to join a like aged female group doing short rides around the city....hmmm. Must get new bike first! I'd intended to get the bike months aga, but bought the Foxy Mamas instead!

Getting out on my road bike on a sunny, warm day helps (haven't done that yet). We're going to start doing some minor repair work on our boat, so that will, hopefully, help to get my mind off of skiing and on going out in the boat.

I'm in the process of washing and storing all my ski clothes. Set up my boots in my new Hot Gear Bag (haven't test-driven it yet--that will have to wait until next season). My SO wanted to know if I wanted him to put the boot bag up and out of the way, with his and his DD's snowboard stuff, but I told him not yet. I guess I'm not ready to hang them up officially for the season, even though it's doubtful I'll be skiing any more this season. :(

I know I'll be fine once the warm weather is here and I'm out regularly on my bike and on the boat. But there's something about "letting go" of the ski season that I find depressing. This has been my best ski season yet--lots of fun, 2 new pairs of skis, and lots of great memories. And, of course, finding and becoming part of this wonderful online community.

I did and probably will have some trouble..it is addicting! I came to terms on Monday during a trip to Saratoga thinking of races (running). The local hill closed today, wasn't supposed to be until tomorrow. Hoping to get to Whiteface tomorrow or Monday and call it a season; and what a great one it has been! Luckily I took many photos on most ski days, so I can look back at them.
Time to get the bike out I guess and join up w/ the club.
So yah, a bit of withdrawl and I'll miss it, but I have accepted that it's pretty much over at this point. Looking forward to next year very much : )

Well, I'll ski until at least May 11th but I think the spring conditions help my brain adjust and then I go into cycling mode. I'd also like to do more hiking this season but I need a partner for that. Anyone know any cute, single guys in Denver who need a hiking partner? :p

Winter=skiing
Spring=gardening, vacation to Europe or some other part of the country, weekends to nice places in the PNW before the summer rush, a little kayaking
Summer/early fall: Hiking, backpacking
Late fall=hunker down inside; curse the short days and head to toe raingear needed for dog walks

Anyone know any cute, single guys in Denver who need a hiking partner?

Robyn, do you know how many guys would LOVE a female hiking partner? I can't tell you how many times I've heard men bemoan the fact they can never find a girlfriend that likes to hike. Find a hiking message board (my PNW hiking board has a forum just for people looking for hike partners), join a hiking club, do a personal ad...seriously, you should have your pick.

Cleaning my skis.

Researching Resort Maps.

I ski, I camp, I cycle, I'd like to do more hiking and, yet, I'm single. Again. Arghhh! I know he's out there but it's oh so frustrating as I read about men who have to beg, borrow, plead and buy their wives things to go skiing and all they'd have to do with me is say "Wanna go skiing?" and we'd be loading the car. :eyebrows: :becky:

Mountain bike. And be careful or you'll end up like me and start thinking it might be even more fun than skiing.

I am SOOOO jealous; I haven't skied in May since Memorial Day weekend at Roundtop (Ludlow, VT) when I was in high school long ago! I would have settled happily for April this year, but we were severely snow deprived in the Carolinas this year... : (

Yes, I have SAD to begin with but, hey, snow reflects sun to give me twice as much! Same idea in the pool...
Me, too. So far, the best thing to help with SAD was skiing (and that's even though the vast majority of my skiing is at night).

Probably next weekend we'll get the bikes out. Though we're supposed to be packing, looking at apartments, and moving. :(

My last skiing day was March 20, so it's been a few weeks. I'm getting back into trail running, so that's making the transition a little easier, though it's more just a fitness endeavor than a truly fun thing. I haven't been on the bike yet; an old back injury that causes my left foot to go numb during long rides is dampening my enthusiasm a bit.

I have SAD, too...so just getting out in the sunshine to read a book or walk my dogs helps. We have a big patio project halfway finished, and that needs to get done by July. With DH's broken arm, I'll be doing most of the heavy lifting, but planning the final stages of that, along with the landscaping needed for it, is helping with the transition.

Then, our yearly month-long trip to the Utah desert in July, where the hot sun will have me dreaming of snow and cold air....

Easter was the last day our hill was open. It's sad, because I started late this year. I'm really looking forward to next year. My withdrawal is that I didn't have enough time!

I'm looking forward to Spring, though. I'm preoccupied with finding a new bike. Nothing hardcore or serious, just a nice enjoyable ride. We like to ride around the metroparks <HUGE area that you don't even know your in the city still. It runs along the Cuyahoga river for miles upon miles>. I haven't bought a new bike in 15 years.

Here is the one I want for just around town.....I could put a basket on this and go to the store for quick pick-ups <I'm weird, yes, I know>

And here is what I'm thinking for metropark riding...still deciding though. I just want something for nice easy riding.

It's been awhile and my ol' Schwinn Woodlands bike just doesn't fit the bill anymore <I have a bad back, and the lean forward is too much anymore. I have to raise the seat too high to actually feel comfortable pedaling>. I can have more than one right?... I just LOVE the Cream bike...
