Question: What should I upgrade to?

:ski2:Hello all, I'm new on the forum, but have been trying to do some research since joining. Anywho, I need to upgrade. I bougth some Salomon SIAM 5's last year, 153's. They're pretty good skis, but I want....more! I'm somewhere right around 5' 6 or 5'7, very athletic build, and probably about 20 lbs overweight ( oh well). I ski blue and black groomers, not one for moguls or a great deal of speed. I LOVE to work nice carves, and keep the form as perfect as possible. I got over most of the speed thing back in my speed skating days growing up. Those siams turn well, but don't dig in as well as I'd like. They chatter like nobodies business when I speed it up too.
Any recommendations? I've been eying the One Luvs, Burning Luvs, and Lotta Luvs. ($$ is a big concern too) Also, I can't decide if I want to go w/ the 156 (seems plenty long) or if i should try a 160. Back in the rental days, I always liked going w/ 155s because they're easier to turn. Any suggestions? Thanks everyone, and happy skiing!

Your Siam 5's were an entry level ski. The ski sounds like its too soft and too short for you from what you are describing. You might want to look at the Origin Jade from Salomon. It's steps up from the 5 you have. Salomon got rid of the number system and went to "jewels". And for your height and ability I would look at 160 range. I'll let the K2 gear heads talk about the Luv's.

Oh, and welcome to our world. Hope you like it here!!

As Jilly said, your ski is an entry level ski but its time for you to move up......
Is there a chance you will get to demo?
If so, then try a few different brands out, in part because they all have different "feel" to them and you may be at the stage of your skiing where you'll be able to discern what properties of a ski you want most.
The k2's you mentioned are all great skis. quite calm and very good on the terrain you mentioned. The lotta and Burnin a bit better at crud busting. Head has some nice skis that will be a bit more energetic than the K2, but not too much energy. Blizzard will be calm but cruisy, volkl will give you lots of pop.......and so on.

What kind of deals are you finding on the Luvs?

I demoed the Head Wild Thangs last year in spring conditions. I liked them a lot. They carved like a dream and were very responsive when I pushed them to go fast. Didn't take them into the trees/powder, but the runs we did were pretty chopped up and full of crud. A bit of slush, etc. I think they are Wild Ones this year, but you could possibly get a good deal if you are looking for last year's product.

Betsy has the Wild Thangs and was skiing them last year at Beaver Creek in a bunch of crud and chopped up spring powder. I think she liked them pretty well but you might send her a PM since she doesn't check in here much.
