What Not To Wear

Fashion Police and What not to wear would probably tear my wardrobe a part and throw away most of it. Style? I don't think so. If I have a style it will probably be old-fashioned and sporty. Or something like that.

This thread inspired by Astridhj from her answer in the Fashion Style thread . . .

If What Not To Wear showed up at your doorstep - would you go?

sure - why not?

I mean I can't picture them throwing out my ski or bike clothes - and the rest of my "real" wardrobe I wouldn't be too heartbroken to part with...

Absolutely!

Never seen it. Altagirl's post raised my eyebrows though, do they actually get rid of your [unapproved by them] clothes?

Yeah - basically the tradeoff is that you get at least the start of a new wardrobe for free. BUT - you have to get rid of the stuff they say you're not supposed to be wearing.

I've never seen that apply to sporting gear or anything like that though. Unless it was like - you don't ski but wear a ski jacket to a professional office every day when you should be wearing a nice coat. Or when they take away people's sweatpants that they wear everywhere... things like that.

Usually it's more like throwing out the age inappropriate, too tight, too baggy, horrible print, hideous color stuff that some people get attached to.

And, do they replace them with things To Wear? um, make that things that are To Wear and also comfortable and functional? i.e. I don't want them to replace my old Tevas with 4 inch heels.

Edit: AG answered my Q while I was still posting! Just amazing! How does she do that?

All I know is that everyone looks great when they're done with them.

I could use some of that!!!!

Hell yes!

I would love to be whisked to New York City and give $5,000 to buy new clothes. The shopping part would be horrible though. As much as I like having new clothes, I hate the process of shopping - and a whole day of shopping would kill me. I just like to get it over with.

I used to beg my friends in DC to nominate me, but they just laughed at me. Something about too many shoes, and I guess my clothes did not suck that bad. Whats a girl to do!

Anyone want to nominate me?:eyebrows:

I've been waching the show since it started and I've never seen them throw away atheltic specific clothing (ie ski clothing) If the clothing is being worn for the right purpose (gym clothing in the gym).

But, I have jeans, shoes, shirts, sweaters, dresses, skirts that are old, outdated, don't fit. I would LOVE for someone to teach me how to dress for my body type. And, free $5k wardrobe...Hello!!!

I love my hairdresser...but, to have Nick do your hair?? Absolutely! In fact, my haridresser would love for Nick to do her hair!

OK, I have never seen the american version, but I do like the british one. The norwegian one is a little tame. I would probably go through with it. Most of my clothes (except skiing clothes) are really old and out of date anyway, and not the correct size.

I think they will let you keep some of the items if they have sentimental value for you.

But I agree with Sheena. A whole day of shopping voluntaringly. It would kill me. Or I would have to eat lots of ice cream to get by.

Maybe I could get my bf to nominate me. He thinks I need a better fashion taste...

I am not a tv watcher with the exception of that show. I love that show! I grew up in NYC and Stacey cracks me up.

What I would like is the opportunity to have Carmondie (sp?) show me what she recommends for make up for me. She's amazing. Nick usually gets it right, but these days I'm happy with my hair style. And some new duds would be great too....

Hell, no. I have clothes that are as old as 40 years old and you know what, styles keep coming back. Plus my weight is always changing, so I get "new" wardrobes as I hunt around for stuff that used to fit and now fits again. I'd have to hide all my stuff in a storage unit so they'd leave it alone. $5000 doesn't go that far in New York. And what would they sell in NYC that I could wear in Whitefish?

My biggest hesitation would be that sometimes I don't think they pay enough attention to what a person's lifestyle is. And I like my hair the way it is. Not that Nick couldn't make it look better, it's just that I'm too lazy to do anything with it!

When I first saw the show a few years back, that was my initial reaction as well. I mean, they take these women (and men?) to the most expensive places where $400 only gets you a pair of dress pants and a shirt. I would rather go to a Khols or Old Navy (I loveee Old Navy) and splurge!!!! Think of all the clothes you can get for $5000 at one of those stores.....:eek::eek:

Yeah, I don't want to toss 8 sets of jeans that fit, along with like 75 t-shirts, 25 turtlenecks, 20 sweatshirts, another 20 sweaters, five sets of sandals, two sets of hiking boots, etc. etc. etc. to get, what? Two suits and an evening gown.
