What gear have you had problems with?

Was it a pair of skis or boots that didn't live up to expectations? A jacket you hated? Let's vent about the gear we've owned and absolutely hated.

I had a pair of Salomon Evolution boots a number of years ago. Absolutely horrible. It was like having my feet in a pair of appliance boxes; they were huge! This was partly my fault. I bought them cheap, cheap, cheap on clearance without the benefit of boot fitting. Even worse, they were purple!

What about you?

My first helmet.
I bought it at the end of the season because I knew I should get one.
Ended up getting "what they had left" that kinda fit.
Bad move! I should have waited and got a properly fitting helmet.
Bargains aren't always bargains.:( :(

Having been skiing for a long time, I can list many things. The first that comes to mind is the "thumb breaker grip" Look poles. I thought that those things were best thing. I always had sore thumbs on Monday and even wrist problems. They lasted one season. Another was a pair of 178 cm Dynastar SF skis. These were my second pair of "shaped skis" (the first were the X9 and no so shaped compared to). I actually argued with the sales guy that I wanted shorter ones. As with most guys and at that time not with the "short" ski revolution, "you don't want to go that short!" Well I did for 2 years and got rid of them quick for 160cm skis. I was so tired out on a trip to Whistler that I rented shorter skis for the last day. And as for boots - remember the Rossi softs from a few years ago. Well I got a pair through a pro-deal. I felt like I was skiing in high heel boots. They lasted 3 days. I can come up with a few more - burning feet, too cold ski suits and googles that fogged no matter what!!

I had a pair of ski pants - bibs - that I absolutely hated. They came up too high across my diaphragm and they were a royal pain in the rest room, especially if I had an extra layer over them. Wore them dutifully for two years and dumped them for a better pair.
