What do you think of this commercial?

At first I thought it was funny. Then I thought it bothered me a bit that the newbie was a woman and that she was so clueless and so taken in by the graphics and a guy had to come bail her out. But then I thought maybe I was being a hard ass. After all, the other woman is portrayed as an expert. What do you think?

Some days I'm a tech nerd, some days I follow the pretty pink sparklies. Anyone who is not OK with either of those can bite me!
Actually case in point: I ski the Head Raptor 110 W which come with Spinetech Buckles. I am upgrading to the higher performing SpineFlex Race Buckles (off of my friends discarded boot) but I don't like the color, so today I painted them black and put Pink and Green Swarovski Crystals on them. And, as I said before, if anyone has any issues with this, I will happily present them my rear.

I thought it was funny, too. Both female characters are extreme - the saleswoman (or “helpful” friend?) is clueless about the buyer, maybe even more than the buyer is clueless. Both exaggerated, the “expert” the most!

It’s not bad. I think their point was to let people know they wont be intimidated by brobrah language shopping there. And that it’s okay to be a beginner or a female shopper. They won’t judge you. I also didn’t think the one female was being portrayed as an expert so much as an annoying salesperson throwing out lingo that was inrelatable to the customer.

This may be my personal anthem from now on!

Love it! I am the first to admit when I walk by racks of skis at an Expo or in a store I am drawn to a beautiful top sheet. My initial impression is "wow, what a gorgeous ski" but then I need to learn all about it. The visual snags your attention - details follow....seems to be how it is with most things in life!

I’d say I’m bothered by that kind of implied sexism stuff more than most and this commercial didn’t bother me in that sense. I still don’t really think it’s a good commercial, though.

I did get a little chuckle out of the lady bro spouting off lingo nonsense. I feel like that’s what my DH thinks I sound like any time I talk about skiing at all. ;)

I can definitely overread into it all day long, but when there is a clip with only three characters, it's going to be hard to trip over some PC wire. For instance, if the genders of the two "experts" are reversed, a different set of stereotype problems emerge. And what about the age of the characters? Commercialism? Heck, even with a hundred characters, something will offend.

So, funny it is... although, like RachelV points out, like many commercials that try to be funny first tend to leave us with little take-away. Ask me, for instance, whom this commercial was advertising. I have no clue, and I've watched it three times!

I thought it was funny. The “expert” reminded me of people who just happen to be in a shop and start spouting off. I don’t think she was working there or a friend. It would have been funnier if the newbie was a guy... but, the store is probably targeting female customers.

@kiki what would Barry think of that? I love it.

The ad is actually from last year, but it's still relevant. MEC is doing a great job with skis.

That is so cute! I love it! My daughter would love this!
It's silly, and goofy (and needs a clear coat and some cleaning up) but I felt like it!

It started just because the original paint job was in such bad shape that almost anything was an improvement, and then I figured why not try to be creative. Lol!
