What do you forget on your first day?

First day skiing is happening for some of us, or it will be happening soon. I don't know about you, but I almost always forget something on my first day. What have you forgotten on your first day out?

Nothing these days, after over 40 first days. But in the old days, typically, small stuff such as socks and gloves.

Years ago, some friends were staying with us and they forgot to bring her ski jacket. That turned into an expensive ski trip for them.

I worked in a ski shop for a few years and you'd be surprised how many people would stop in to buy a new jacket, because they'd left their's at home.

Also ski pants.

LOL I was getting ready to ski last Friday and thought about this.
I ended up doing a video short to address this topic.

I always forget how stinkin’ long it takes to get dressed, and how quickly the inevitable overheating begins!

Generally remember everything but it takes a couple of hours to get it all set out ready, bag packed etc. By the 3rd or 4th day we're a well -oiled machine and can be up and out the door in 20 minutes.

Thanks for doing this topic!

Things I have forgotten first day:
- glove liners
- pass
- glasses that fit under my goggles
- trail map
- water
- ski poles (that was an interesting day)
- ski lock

Making this list reminds me of something I've noticed. The more kids and other people I'm responsible for (driver, etc.) the more likely I am to forget something I need myself. It's happened so many times that now I stop and take extra care when I'm leading a group or taking family.

I have forgotten some very basic ski technique fundamentals, and gone down hard on turn 2 of the season on the bunny slope. The bad part was the two adult men looking confused about a ski instructor in uniform tipping over.

DH brought both mitts, for his right hand....that one was pretty funny. Being on one board he was still able to enjoy the snow all day.

Not on the first day, but I did find myself at 7am in the queue on a powder day realising that I was still wearing my glasses and not my contacts that I need for skiing. Luckily this was after I'd put a spare pair in my backpack otherwise it'd have been a mad dash home again!

Sometimes I have forgotten to pack my poles! But I actually find it interesting to see what happens when I don't have then to rely on - definitely think it makes me use my feet and legs more!

Now I have a packing list in my notes app on my phone after a couple trips forgetting items on overnight trips. I use the list every trip now! Comes in handy for non ski trips as well as it is very comprehensive. Find I’m most likely to forget the items I think I’d never forget (undies, socks, all the chargers).

I did once forget ski pants when I was rushing to get to mountain for an early lesson at Winter Park. They were very understanding and rescheduled me and offered pants from lost and found. My friend was coming to the mountain a bit later so i did not take them up on the offer, but good to know lost and found might be able to help in a pinch.

Goggles for me. My sweetie has forgotten his boots. More than once. We now each have a dedicated laundry basket for our gear that goes in the van. Goggles are resting in my helmet and everything needed plus backups are in there. That works best where you can park near the slopes. Definitely prefer mountains where no shuttles are needed.

I rarely forget stuff for skiing. I go through my bag the night before and make sure I'm set. I keep all in my boot bag so as long as I grab that I'm good. That said it's only has good as my remembering to put stuff in there. I have forgotten gloves or a spare pair of socks. I use this as an excuse to go to the ski shop and use my discount

A lot of almosts. Usually poles, sending me back inside, down to the basement, and by then the drive time has gone up half an hour. But there was one forget. It was my first time going to Big Snow. I remembered my ski socks last minute, and tossed them on the passenger seat of my car. But I was carpooling. You see where I'm going with this by now, I'm sure. And it was summer, so I was not wearing socks of any kind. Whoops. I think I'm going to get my back set up this week ;)

I’ve forgotten my socks enough times that I always keep a spare in my boot bag now. It’s come in handy more than once.
