What do you do with old ski gear?

Sell it? Pass it on? Pitch it? Turn it into furniture?

I like a program being offered by Outdoor Divas in Boulder and Denver. Right now you can bring in your outdated skis, snowboards, boots and bindings, and if it's in good condition, they'll donate it back to the community; unsalvageable gear will be shredded and turned into building materials and furniture.

We bring ours to the Columbus day weekend ski swap at Wachusett mountain.
You can check online over the weekend to see if your stuff sold.
Once you sell something, you can take the cash, minus a percentage (I don't remember how much) or you can get 100% on a Wachusett card that's good for anything from lifts to the ski shop to the restaurant.

You have to get there bright and early on Friday to get the best selection. This is a really popular event, and by Friday at noon, the choicest deals are gone. But it's an especially good thing for skiing families with kids who outgrow their clothes and equipment every year.
We have sold several pairs of skis with bindings, just a couple of years old, in great condition, because we take good care of our skis.
Two years ago, I sold over $200 worth of stuff.

I just gave my old boots to Shon, the boot fitter, who donates them to kids that can't afford new. I hate the thought of this stuff going to the land fill, especially if there is still life in them.
