Question: What do Divas think about ski bibs?

Are they out of style?

Are they more or less comfortable than ski pants?

What about warmth?

I'm on the market for new ski pants (and jacket) and am having a hard time deciding what I want/need. I'm always cold and it's been suggested to me I go with bibs but...they're so...blah and usually come in dull colors, whereas there's a ton of ski pants to choose from.

Like ALL of my ski clothes, they have their place. I wear my bibs on very cold, deep powder days. They are a little looser in fit than my other ski pants, so I can fit my beefiest layers under them, plus the bib , obviously, help keep the snow from going down my back side.

But, on "normal" days, I don't wear them. I have several friends that still wear them for all days.

I hate bibs. I had a pair of Spyders with suspenders that I traded to hubby for his Spyders without. My Avalanche pants have bibs, but I just leave them hanging like the racer kids. I've never been cold enough, or in deep enough snow to need them. Bibs are a RAVING pain when going to the bathroom. :(

Count me with the haters - hate bibs, hate using them in the washroom - ugh.

Never had a problem with cold back, but then again, I'm in Central Canada where 15cm is a lot of powder.

Hate bibs, hated they as a kid. Bathroom is a pain. I don't mind suspenders, but prefer not as I have boobs and the suspenders don't seem to know where to go!

All my ski pants have high backs though. And all my jackets have powder skirts. But eastern canada and more than boot deep powder doesn't seem to happen, so snow up my back or front hasn't been a problem.

I had bibs when I was snowboarding .... they where nice but not so confortable to waer. I prefer one-piece suits like the one I bought last month!:D:D

 I love it, wow! Beautiful color, too! I have a one-piece suit (it's the one I'm wearing in my profile pic) but I can't keep warm in it. If I layer too much, it gets too tight. Is your suit insulated? Mine isn't.

I have bibs to wear on the coldest days. I take the good with the bad.

Good - warm, roomier, always stay up so no back draft
Bad - bathroom breaks take longer

Some bibs fight with boobs, seems to work best when the front of the bib is higher and not like suspenders.

Its insulated very well. Has a lot of pockets (mobile, ipod, goggles, etc etc) ventilation zips on torso and legs .... ist made by Salomon and it has graphics on the back as well!!!!

If you want I can do a review for skidiva with more pics etc

I wear of bib b/c i tend to carry my weight in the middle and it's more comfortable w/layers b/c i got less around the waist. My bib is for mountaineering so I get a zipper that goes where you need it most in the bathroom :P

Hi,

I bought a pair this summer when I came across them at a sale - on a rack stuck out of the way behind lots of other stuff as though they didn't expect anyone to buy them.

I'll try to describe them since I cannot find them online to post a picture. They are made by HEAD, and are a pretty light blue. The material is like regular hardshell ski pants and with a normal to slim fit (not baggy) The upper part is not suspenders, it is really like a sleeveless one-piece (upper part is also form-fitting), and has an inside chest pocket and two normal pockets. There is one long zipper all the way to the neck.

I've worn them a few times (including today). The biggest advantage is that they are super warm. The biggest disadvantage is that I take too long on bathroom breaks...

They were TOTALLY an impulse buy (very Diva-like), before that I would have put myself in the "hater" category.

My black bibs are not really stylish, but not terribly horrible either. They too are more of a vest like fit up top. It does take an effort to go to the bathroom. However, if I didn't have bibs, I'd have to deal with getting my layers all tucked back into my pants after going to the bathroom (a real pain for my kids who don't have bibs right now).

If I qualify for NASTAR nationals, I'll be getting a GS suit and these bibs will be great over that. They zip completely up both legs and the gator has snaps. They'll be easy to get off over ski boots. That is if I have the guts to actually wear a race suit. How embarassing - I have body image issues but I do want to be fast. I think I'll be a dork if I don't have one racing in the gold division there?:noidea:

So, I like my bibs darnit. They are practical. Perfect in that regard.

I'm always in a rush for the bathroom- heck sometimes I squat in the trees. (I'm such a lady!) So bibs are out for me. I'd have to buy Depends!

You won't be a dork, but you probably be one of the very few without a suit. Definitely do it!!! Have no fear that anyone will care what you look like.....they're all too busy doing last minute tune and wax jobs at the top. If anyone should have an image problem in a suit, it's me (I look like the Michelin Man), yet I wear one pretty much every week anyway. You'll get over it .

Yeah, I'll get over my issues to be faster. Thanks for the encouragement.

Well, in the NASTAR thread where you posted a pic, you certainly didn't look like the Michelin Man!! You looked like a speedster.

Not a fan, too complicated, I have to take off my jacket to do my business, and I can be in street clothes in an instant after skiing. .

Love that blue one-piece suit---it's funky and looks warm.

My preferences are:

Hard shell bibs for me on snowy days----you can get ones with pee zip option.

softshell regular pants on mild groomer days.

No padded outerwear for me, as conditions and exertion levels vary---must have layers.

I'm back to ski after longer break. I always worn bibs and love it.
But it seems everything has changed. There are mostly ski pants in the stores.
Despite bibs are less popular these days, I still believe bibs are better.
Your back is protected from occasion wind and snow and also you need to worry it might slide down.
Another reason, in my opinion bibs look more feminine than pants.
