It's still shoulder season here and after one early heatwave, we've been wet and cold. Wet trails = no trails to ride/hike. Our wonderful, long paved bike path is torn up in several places for construction projects with no safe alternate routes and a bridge out until October to get the the quieter roads.
Spouse is training 8+ hours a day (gym and riding) for the Tour Divide bikepacking race starting in Banff, AB, CA and ending at Antelope Wells, NM border crossing - 2800 miles, self-supported - no outside help. Riders can procure any services commercially available to the public (food, lodging). And when he's not physically trainings, he's working through an absurd amount of logistics and planning.
My "only" role (beside fiscal contributions and feeding his bike hungry) is driving him to Banff for June 13 start, driving back to Utah to watch his dot on Track Leaders, and then picking him up on the Mexican border 23-29 days later. That's a lot of sitting on my butt time. I support and encourage him 100%, but I sure am not enjoying being a bike widow.
So with my playmate fully engaged elsewhere, my fitness is lagging. I too often fall short of my planned 3-4 workouts a week in the home gym - weights, balancing and flexibility exercises. I hike steep trails when I can, ride shorter rides when it's not 40 degress and raining. And it's still too cold to paddle.
Currently, my main activities are polishing (hidden) resentments and self-pity and juggling fear and dread. I have done epic-level spring cleaning - every closet and dresser stripped bare, stone floors scrubbed, rinsed multiple times and sealed. Weight lifting has been boosted by planting my patio pots way too early so I'm lifting and carrying very wet, very heavy pots into the house to avoid frost damage. I doubt that whining does much for fitness, but if it did, I'd probably be doing pretty well. :-) HAVE FUN, y'all.
