Well, I've reached my original before-I found-out-I-shrank goal. (4.5 pounds to the actual current goal.) All the walking I've done since the end of last season totally paid off. I'm skiing top-to-bottom without stops, able to ski back-to-back days, not feeling wiped on the next morning, etc. My skiing feels like it's at Day 40, not Day 4. My main goal now is not to get so cocky I get stupid.

Some old friends I've said hi to didn't recognize me, which is kind of fun. Down 79.5 pounds, so I've almost lost a person, so not surprising.

Wow congratulations, that’s awesome!

Does anyone have any shoes they like for lifting specifically? I've just been wearing my running shoes to the gym, but the soles are squishy and have some roundness to them that my trainer doesn't like for my ankle stability. So she has been having me take them off and do certain things in my socks for dead lifts, weighted lunges, and other lower body weight machines we use so I can be more stable and grounded. And admittedly I do feel a good difference there. She would like me to get something with a flat stable sole.

Anyway, figured I'd check here first for any suggestions on where to start my search.

Yup your trainer is right — ie: a cycling flat shoe is likely a more ideal shoe than a running trainer. I don’t have any specific tips or recs on shoes that work for this purpose though.

Plain ol' Converse?
That's exactly one that my trainer did mention haha. I will need to go try some on, I've never worn them. They just didn't look overly very comfy to be for athletic pursuits I guess when looking online, but that might be a good cost-effective option if they are comfier than they look.

How about the Nike Metcon? Or a minimal barefoot shoe like the Lems Primal Zen.

Chuck Taylors are fine and flat. And some funky colors or patterns, too. I wear them on my boat. Better non skid sole than any boat shoes!

Puma Fuse 3 and Nike Metcon. Under Armor makes a slip on I’ve heard is fantastic, but I think it could be minimalist. UA has amazingly good HIIT shoes, perfect for weight work. Of course, each one feels different so you’ll have to do some try ons.

I was similarly weirded out by the suggestion of training in Converse, but I put some Superfeet insoles in mine and they've been working pretty well.

I am going to go try some shoes on after the holiday rush... in the meantime we are still just taking my sneakers off for some stuff lol.

I also had to do an edit after today's session. I think I mentioned last week that I was up to 200lbs on the leg press machine, which I found very exciting! Today I was counting the weight plates she added for me and realized I was at 230lbs.. so I asked, but what about the weight of the machine itself like the bar for the weights and the whole plate you are pushing etc. Ohh.. says right on it that it weighs 103lbs without anything added on. We forgot to add that to the total weight last week apparently! Sooo... today I actually did 333lbs for 3 sets of 10 reps each. I was shocked but felt so good about it too! I am loving my time with the trainer so much; she makes it all very fun and it's keeping me motivated and actually looking forward to heading to the gym for our sessions.

@MissySki I rotate my gym (and running) shoes and just grabbed my Nike Renew training shoes, which are my favorites for gym work. I wanted to update you so you put them on your list. In Nike, I prefer the Renew over Metcon because for me, the Metcons are a real pain to put on. YMMV.

I've given up alcohol! Found myself getting a little bit too keen on it, and getting through a litre of vodka in very little time was happening way too often.

Five weeks sober and feeling good. Ski pants fitting a tiny bit looser too.
Good for you! Keep up the great work.

I try to go to a hot Pilates class 2x a week. At home I do PT for the knee and use a free app called "Body by Blogilates" for mini workouts which I highly recommend. I also try to take at LEAST 1-2 little walks a day just to get outside! This also depends on where in my menstrual cycle I am.

Also folks, don't be too hard on yourself about not squeezing exercising- if you make it for one walk to the end of the driveway, or only have time for 10 min of stretching - that is better than nothing and worth high fiving yourself for! Life is so demanding for women. I am learning a lot about resting as much as we need.

I second what @Chute Goddess said above about getting even a small workout, or walk or stretch in. I often am too tired to work out after skiing all day, but still try to show up to the class series I purchased. I rarely last the who class but make it a point to stay for at least half an hour. Same with spinning on the bike at home the other nights. even if I only get 10 to 15 minutes in of zone 2 pedaling, I consider it a win for my body today and in the future.

Not sure if Exercise Coach is all of the US, but it's amazing! 20 minutes, 2x per week for strength training. Our gym is small, so we only have four people per group class. The coaches/machines do all the setting and tracking of weight, so you just show up. And, it's hard to say no to just a 20 minute workout!! LOL

This is such a great option. Wish I had them near me.
