What are Divas reading?

My husband just read "Project Hail Mary" after watching the movie multiple times. He enjoyed telling me about the differences until I asked him to stop so I could read the book myself.

I had read the book first and was wondering if the movie even made any sense with such a condensed movie storyline. I loved the scientific explanations and thought process of establishing communication and all sorts of things in the book and you barely get a hint of it in the film. I was kind of underwhelmed by the movie but perhaps thats to be expected. Though I do, for instance, love both the books and movies for Dune, and GOT, etc. But, those also got spread out into longer formats and not a single movie.

@SkiBam - have you read Gabriel's Moon, also by William Boyd? Think it's the first in a 3 part spy series, I've not read the other 2 yet but enjoyed that one.

Yes, I've read Gabriel's Moon. Also the next in the series, The Predicament. Gotta find out when the third, Cold Sunset, is available. Great reading.

I think a lot depends on which you do first. We loved the movie and the book just provided a ton of additional detail. But if you had read the book first you probably would have been disappointed in the movie

I just love her. Light and fun but not trashy or trite. My faves I think are Summer Affair and Hotel Nantucket. To my surprise I also enjoyed her first post-Nantucket novel, The Academy.

Along the same lines I just discovered Jenny Jackson' (Pineapple Street and The Shampoo Effect). Maybe they're a little more literary fiction than Elin, but not by much.

This has been a fun few months for me, book wise, as my favorite authors--Ann Pachett, Emma Straub and Daniel Mason, all released new books. Thumbs up to the first two, even if I wouldn't say they are my favorites from those authors, and I'm about to start the third.

I work with Jenny Jackson! She's a wonderful person. I'm so happy for her "second career" as an author.
I have heard good things about Emma Straub's new book and I just finished Country People by Daniel Mason. I have liked all his books.
I recommend Land by Maggie O'Farrell and Land In Winter by Andrew Miller.

Have you read I Am, I Am, I Am? It's her kind-of memoir. I loved it.

I just finished "Whistler "by Ann Patchett, which I thought was quite good. Also, I recommend "Fallen For France" by Elizabeth Letts. She’s a good friend, so I got an advance copy. I think it’s coming out this month.

Wow, Tvan, 10 books in 14 days is amazing, even for beachy novels. I am listening to the audiobook of The Odyssey before I see the new movie tomorrow. I never had to read it in high school and never appealed to me as an adult. Actually it still doesn't appeal bc Odysseus is kind of a jerk(as are many of those male characters as well as the Greek gods).

I heard an interview with Emily Wilson who has a highly popular translation which makes me think I should listen to a different translation that might be more interesting. She read an excerpt in ancient Greek on the radio and I thought I might enjoy listening to her read the whole book that way even though I wouldn't understand a word! It was pretty compelling. We'll see how motivated I am after seeing the movie tomorrow.

My other book is a beach read too by Lucy Chalice. Fun and easy reading! I hope to get some more fun reads in when we are at the beach later this month.

IMHO, better than her last book, “Tom Lake.”

Reading “Murderland” now.

I didn't think it was better than Tom Lake, but I adore Ann Patchett and thought it was quite good.
Her nonfiction essays are terrific, in case anyone hasn't read her two books of those.

My reading speed has ground to a more reasonable velocity. I go in spurts, for sure. I also started knitting a complicated sweater, so that cuts into reading time.

After reading all the Elin Hilderbrand in our library, I moved on to Emily Henry. “Book Lovers” had some laugh-out-loud moments.

What are ski divas reading?

Me: Book 4 of the Outlander series, audio format. These days I read/listen to audio books on my commute more so than an actual book (or Kindle). I use Goodreads to track my reading.

Recent reads: The Correspondent, Strangers, Go Gentle, The Unquiet Mind, Kindred. July was an oddly heavy book month. Currently All That Is which I may not finish. ;)

Just finished "Murderland," which is a non-fiction look at serial killers in the Northwest, exploring the correlation between them and exposure to pollutants like lead. I've always thought of the Northwest as particularly pristine, so this was a surprise to me. Very interesting.

I just read Lisa Jewell's "None of this is True", which I thoroughly enjoyed, until the end. As I was reading, a voice in my head kept saying, I hope she doesn't screw up the ending. Which, unfortunately, she did. A good read until the end - I did read that she tried a few different endings before settling on the one that was published, but still not a good ending.

On a friends recommendation, I also read The Divorce, by Frieda McFadden. I do NOT recommend this drivel. Not a fan of Frieda McFadden.
