weird request: women's ski names

So I have no idea if anyone can help me out, but I figured since the internet is such a vast place, there might be something out there.

I'm going to a ski swap with my mom on Saturday to look for skis for my sister for Christmas. I know what length she needs and her generally ability level. Here's the problem: I have older shaped skis, and have only been looking at newer skis this season, and it seems like manufacturers are always changing the names of their skis.:noidea: Is there any sort of database that lists older skis and their current (closest) equivalents or something like that? I don't want to pick out something that would be totally wrong for her.

I don't think I've ever seen one, but it might be something we could start. But to help you out with what I know.

Rossi hasn't changed the numbering system Attraxion or Passion 1 or 3 or 5 for a few years. They did change it this year slightly. 5 became 6.

Atomic changed things this year too. Balanz line isn't that old either, but its gone to Cloud and Heaven. The higher Balanz numbers the move advanced.

Salomon changed things up last year. The Siam's were numbered. They changed to Jewel names that you see now. As was the Rush series. Salomon dropped alot of skis last year and this year even a few more models. Too much overlap. And again the higher the number the more advanced the ski. ie Siam 10 was the advanced all mountain ski.

That's why I keep old issues of Ski Canada's Buyer Guide. In the magazine they list all the skis for that year. Also it helps when someone asked me about a ski they've seen at a box store. You won't find it in the listing as its not really a ski!

I've always thought there should be something listing the equivalents from various years. Unfortunately, I haven't seen such a thing. As Jilly said, having older buyer's guides or looking at older articles can really help. You may consider a membership to realskiers.com ($20, I believe) for current and past reviews that aren't paid for by advertising.

K2s womens skis are T9s. I had a pair of T9 Flights..they stopped making that series and now it is the T9 Luvs....the Burnin' Luv was the upgrade from the Flights.

And yes, that includes all the Luvs.

If you're looking for the name of each brand's women's line, in addition to what's been named already, Dynastar's women's specific line is Exclusive, Fischer's women's specific line is Vision and Volkl's is the Attiva line.

You might check out www.realskiers.com for a good selection of ski reviews and tips. The subscription version (expertskiers.com) has reviews for the past several years including information about ski name succession / evolution. (I was directed there by a skidiva last spring and have found it helpful and interesting.)

Not a weird request at all. I'm a big fan of new/old stock.
Here's a site that logs reviews quite a few years back, by brand:
https://www.ski-review.com/
Not very comprehensive, but a good start.
