Weather not cooperating

Right now I'm sitting in the living room in Vt. My new Fischer Visions are ready and waiting in the garage (I got them mounted yesterday)
And the weather forecast for today is R***. That nasty four letter word :mad2: I'm so glad I live in New England

I was really looking forward to having a great ski day today. And was hoping for a few days on the new skis before the Okemo Diva Day on Monday.

I hope all you Diva's who go out have a great time.

So funny SnowHot....
Not sure DH would appreciate the yelling right now as he is taking the opportunity to sleep in...I'd be left dealing with a very cranky person for the next hour or so.

Good idea though. But with the forecast, I'd have to go very far north. There's a flood watch for today.

Believe it or not, drive south! The Ohio Valley is getting smacked with about 10" right now... we're on Blizzard Watch....

Eastern Great Lakes region is getting all snow. Then the system takes a northerly tack. Tremblant due for big snow, per radar and Jilly.

Rain/snow line a nightmare to predict, per local meteorologist. NNE got spit snow pellets last night. Bigger of the 2 systems due to start after 12 today. No idea what's coming. We are perilously close to the line of fire (rain/snow), and it will definitely change over when the front slides over the colder surface air.

Worried about any/all trying to travel today. If you are, sit tight. We have friends trying to go from here to Midwest at 6 a.m., and while storm should be dissipating by then, air traffic could be seriously backed up in this corridor.

So it goes in New England, as noted above---

I will report how much/what type has hit the more northerly aspects once it has passed, with damage report or, better yet, snow totals. Hoping that locations such as Stowe, Jay, Sugarloaf, etc., are far enough north to avoid some of the r***.

Adding insult to injury: we all lose an hour of sleep tonight. Feels way weird to be shifting to daylight savings this early!! I remember when it was always the last Sat night in April!! (again, seriously dating myself....)

Yeah, what is it with this early daylight savings time? I don't believe that it saves energy like it's supposed to. It's darker in the AM and I have to drive to school in the DARK! Yuck! MSL, you are NOT dating yourself....I always remember DST occurring in the spring when it was starting to warm up.

As for the rain in New England, I feel your pain. Be thankful that you guys at least get more snow in the winter. Here in PA we've gotten mostly rain this winter.....there will be a snowstorm in the forecast a week out, then the track shifts westward and we get rain. It's been completely frustrating. I was yelling at DH the other night: "I can't take this anymore! I want to move!" Poor guy. He'd move us west/north in an instant if there were readily available academic jobs (they're not).

All New Englanders need to drive west......it's snowing in Lake Placid...go skiing at Whiteface! :becky:

Oh, just to let you know, it is POURING rain here now. My yard is a swamp. The snow is all gone. My dogs are ticked off.....no frisbee or long walks today. Worse yet, they have to get toweled off when they come in - how embarrassing for a dog!

You can the 6+" in my driveway!! Asked DH if he was going to move the first load. Was told where I could put it!! "Gonna wait till it stops!" We may not get the door open by then. By we haven't had this much in a long time. As for Tremblant, according to Russ, (TI) they've got a foot so far and are into a short clear spot, then more this afternoon. Probably what I'm getting now. So go north (Jay reported good stuff this morning too) or south!!

Jilly -

I would come up and personally shovel all the snow in your driveway just so I could have snow!:snow:

Whiteface got snow...along with 30mph winds, so lifts got shut down, same thing at Gore...Gore is still not open. We are checking weather and considering a drive to Windham for this afternoon and tomorrow.

Northern New England wound up with between 1-2" of rain, with some snow afterward, so serious dust-on-crust. Bigger problem here at this time, as in NY, is wind. Very high winds right now, 25 mph sustained, with frequent gusts.

Long range forecast looks dry and relatively seasonal (FWIW), no storms in forecast (PLEASE, NO MORE RAIN!), but now the "repair" work begins. Whatever snow fell is long gone, blown to Ohio. (who apparently does not need more)

Today is most definitely a die-hard day, and forget Sugarloaf. They are on near full wind hold for chairlifts. No big surprise. Overall, however, we have more or less survived. (Imagine what this would have been if it had been snow.....)

We got pummelled with rain and winds yesterday too. I WISH it was snow!! :snow: My friend and I cancelled our outing to the local hill today because it was just so gross out yesterday. I even woke up at 6am (which felt like 5am) today, debating whether or not I was willing to make the drive up myself and grin and bear it... until I heard the fierce wind barrelling down my street... then I just crawled back into bed

I just want another few more decent (relatively, given where I live) ski days this month. That's all I'm asking for. Is that really a steep request? I don't think so! :ski2:

Can I tell you????

We hemmed and hawed over even going up to Maine this weekend given the forecast, but ultimately, we figured we'd be miserable at home so we went. I am so glad we did! We had THE BEST day Sat.

It was as if Mother Nature said, "I honestly can't do anything about the rain/snow line, but I'll see what I can do to get you some time on the hill..." and the first band of the storm went through on the overnight. Sat AM we had an hour or so of SUN, 30's to 40 spring skiing conditions. We ran into our whole group of friends on Aurora, must have gotten in a dozen runs before 11:30, went in for a beer, and skied an hour more before the rain got too bad. The snow was soft as room temperature butter. I went down runs I never have before, like Quantum Leap, Crossbow, and Tightwire.

Even better the group of us just didn't want the good times to end, so everyone met at the Matterhorn for apres, kids in tow---who played video games, and took half a dozen pizzas back to someone's house and just hung out. Seriously one of the best days I've had at SR this season.

Sunday, now that was another story. I got a lot of work done on the sweater I'm knitting while the GSR kids ran gates.
