Warmest mittens?

I love warm mittens, and I'm in a constant search for the warmest ones out there. Anyone have ones that are like furnaces on your hands?

The best mittens I have found so far for my very could hands are Grandoe leather mittens. I also wear silk wool glove liners with hot hands. I find leather to be the warmest. I also have leather barn gloves. You can get the liners at wintersilks.com along with a lot of great silk long johns.

Ditto. With hand warmers when it gets really, really cold.

Grandoe "Knockouts", big leather mittens that look like prizefighter gloves.

They're not furnaces though. Not even close. But they are the warmest gloves I've ever worn.

Canadian Tire has "electric mitts". But what happens when the batteries die?? Just like the heaters on the Atomic boots?? I think the mitts are more for the ski-doo guys than us. I like my Swany's or my MEC glove/liner set for cold days. Going to need both for this weekend.

I have a pair of Swany Toaster mittens. Glove liner, incorporated with a mitten. Zips on the sides to insert hand warmers (haven't needed them yet) or just to let the sweat evaporate on those warmer days.

Great mittens, I just wish they had more of a gauntlet style to go over my jacket sleeves.

I'll second the Swany Toaster recommendation - having that zipper eliminates the problem of some mitts with the built in glove liner. It's easy to adjust the fingers of the glove when the zipper is open.

I found when I had the Swany Toaster zipper mittens the wind would blow right through the zipper. This made for very cold hands even with hot hands. I still say for cold hands go with leather.

My Toaster mittens are leather. I know they also make a version in nylon, but I'm not familiar with how they work.

I love the some Swany's that outside are mittens and inside are fleece gloves (as a single unit with no zippers), tall gauntlets to keep the snow out, and outside pockets for hand warmers. On only two occasions have I ever needed (thin) glove liners, and they've always kept me toasty warm and dry. Don't know the name of this model, but it says something like "Tri-Flex" on the back.

I have Grandoes too, but not the leather ones. They are big like boxing gloves, and I really can only wear them when it's pretty darn cold out. To show you how warm they are? The other day at Okemo with -temps all day my hands were SWEATING.

Yeah. those suckers are warm (but they're pretty bulky so it's hard to get my hands through my polestraps with them on)

I also have those Grandoe leather mittens. Given the very cold weather lately, that's what I've been wearing exclusively. If they get wet, bad news for the rest of the day. But nothing beats their warmth, especially with two hand-warmers snuggled next to my skin in each one.

marmots

marmot randonee are the best mits i've found. they also have the special attribute of being very flexible and easy to manipulate in and out of your pole strap.

I have Swany Toaster mittens too - both the leather and the nylon. I used the leather at Steamboat over the MLK weekend when the highs were in the single digits and the lows below zero. I put a hand warmer inside and was quite warm the entire time. I like being able to unzip the side and use my fingers without having to take off my mittens.

Swany toaster mittens. I wore out the nylon pair after 5 years and could only find the leather ones. On not so cold days, they are too warm. I need to keep the zipper open. However, if needed they accommodate a hand warmer very nicely!
Someone mentioned the ones with the fleece innard and gauntlet. I am pretty sure those are the male version. I bought them as well for really, really cold days.

I have Swany Tri-plex mittens and don't like them. They LOOK great, but they don't keep my hands any warmer than the $20 mittens I had before spending $60 on the Swanys. The warmer pocket is way up on the top of the hand, which isn't where you need warmth. The cuff is very difficult to pull up over your sleeve. There isn't enough room inside for an additional liner.

I had high hopes for these mittens, but I'm disappointed because when the temperature is around 10 degrees, these mittens don't keep my hands warm. There's are too many fancy doodads on them but basic function (warmth) is neglected.

Here's the frugal solution

I think the absolute warmest mittens are 2 pairs of wool mittens. The outer pair should have a leather palm. I have wool mittens that my mother knit for me 35 years ago! They still work just fine.

I bought a pair of Marmot mittens 3 years ago at Sam's in Brattleboro for a whopping $100 and have managed not to lose them. They are so warm that I rarely use them (I use a mid-weight Serius glove or a thin Serius glove) but when I need them, they work really well.:p

marmot randonee mittens

i dont' know if marmot is so popular out east but man around here, any hard core skier resort or backcountry is wearing these mitts. my rv is full of them. and as far as wool mitts go i love them but only when the weather is warmer 30 degrees and up. but i'm not woman eenough for them when the weather gets 2o or lower. the fab part apart about both is how flexible they are for getting into your poles and using your poles. you don't feel like flipper!

I am sold out to Auclair. Maybe because I grew up in the town next to where they are made... I always go to their usine store where there's great deals.
