Well, Wachusett is just fantastic right now! The snow is so lovely, no ice to be found… heavenly! I am just leaving, and glad I am because the amount of tweens that just packed in from the buses in every nook and cranny of the lodge is scary! Lol So glad they had us upstairs in a suite for the demo today, very peaceful up there.

@MissySki what did you demo and what did you end up liking?
Yes, I thought the conditions were fabulous. In fact if I didn't know I was in Massachusetts I would have thought I was in Colorado! Wonderful soft groomers with very nice grippy snow. I skied every open trail except for Balance Rock. They had some moguls on 10th Mountain--normally I avoid moguls under a lift but I decided to do the ones on the edge next to the groomed section so I could go out again if I wanted but they were pretty good and not super icy so I did that a few times.
Get there soon if you can while the conditions are so good!

Oh yeah, when the buses roll in, it's time to roll out.

I'm looking forward to my women's clinic lesson tomorrow!
It was like a crazy swarm! I came out of the suite and they had even setup shop in the hallway between the suites and the stairs I had to get to from there... I had to step over and around these girls all over the floor with all of their stuff also strewn everywhere. Downstairs was no better, it was insane! lol

Have a great clinic tomorrow!

It was such a nice demo! There were TWO females at the tent, one being Hannah that gave the presentation at the wine, cheese, chicks, & skis event and another who was super nice as well. Then there was a guy who was also very nice to chat with, he asked some questions about my Zipfits when I was booting up in the morning.

So my initial objective was the try the Nordica Multipista 74... they had next year's multipista 80 width ski which I started out with. They then went into Wachusett's demo shop to pull the 74 for me since they had forgotten that one, which I thought was really nice of them to accommodate! The only catch is that they were both a 170 length, which is longer than I would normally ever ski, so I was a bit apprehensive about it. However, both were fun to ski, though I popped myself up in the air on one turn when carving my first run with the 80 underfoot version lol, they definitely push back! I preferred the 74 underfoot between the two which is good since I'm looking for a narrower ski and my main two skis are mid-80s so I don't want another so close in width. There was a big difference between the 80 and 74 in terms of how quickly you get on edge, the 74 is just effortless. Two reps told me they would call 170 my correct size in that ski due to some tip rocker making it ski "short", but I still felt like I would want to try the 165 since that is my usual happy length and these felt a tad long. In general for the last year or so I have been going back and forth on buying the Kastle MX74 but when I heard about the Multipista 74 I thought I'd like to try that as well before deciding. I think I am still leaning towards the Kastle to be honest... but I would love to get on the 165 Nordica to really confirm. I'll have to see if any shops have the 165 to try since the Nordica reps do not have any shorter lengths in that ski to try out.

I also skied the Santa Ana 87 in a 167 length, Santa Ana 92 in a 161 and then 167 because the 161 felt too short, and the 102 in a 161 because they didn't have a longer option but I actually felt okay on that one as I guess the additional width gave enough stability to the ski. I really had fun on all of them, the soft snow was all chopped up and thinker by the end of the day and all of these skis are so surfy and fun in it. The downside to demoing in such ideal snow conditions is that is not at all what we have for snow most of the time in New England, so there's that. Couldn't get any idea of firm snow grip ability today. I will say that I do feel a little goldilocks about the sizing Nordica has right now... several years ago it was more skewed towards a mid 160 length that felt really good whereas I was feeling a bit like the 161s were short enough to be unstable for me outside of the 102 but the 167s felt a teeny tiny bit long. In any case, my favorite ski of the day ended up being the Santa Ana 87 in the 167 length that I took out multiple times because it was so much fun both before and after lunch as the snow went from hero groomers to fun choppy, soft snow.

Thanks for sharing. I got there at 5pm and by 7pm the entire lodge was filled with kids and boot bags lol.

Where can you demo Kastle? I've been curious about Kastles but never found demos anywhere.

Did another Wachusett day today. While the conditions were good, they were not remotely as good as last week as to be expected. The snow was still soft on the top layer, but it got skied off and was showing the normal hardpack in places. Still what I'd call good conditions but more like a normal New England day. It was still holding up well though--not really any thawing to re-freeze so that was good.
Conifer and 10th Mountain had very skied off areas---the bumps on 10th were still pretty decent though.

I was just looking at the events page and see that in addition to a Valentine's Singles line speed dating thing on the Vickery bowl on the 14th they are doing a Valentines two for one demo deal this week on the 12th and 13th (Thurs and Fri).

I was sort of hemming and hawing on the Pharma networking event at Wachusett Tuesday night… but I’m pretty excited now that they should be getting another couple of feet of snow tonight/tomorrow!

Conditions at Wachusett were really good today. Not quite as good as after that January light powdery storm, but pretty darn good. I don't think I really encountered any hard pack today all. The only disappointment is they rolled the bumps on 10th Mountain so no more moguls at least right now. Get it while it's good!!

Agreed, the event I attended Tuesday evening was great! In that case the steep section of Smith Walton WAS very scrapey but that was about it. I was super pleased about the conditions for night skiing there... though it was a bit crowded for the first couple of hours. I literally parked in row 13 when I arrived a bit after 4! I was also sad that the bumps weren't there, but overall I had a great time meeting and skiing with some new people and conditions were very nice.

Yes, it was fairly crowded today too. I arrived 5 min before I normally do and was in row 3, while I normally get into row 2 or row 3 arriving later! They were using the satellite parking lot too when I left.

Still holding its own today with the super warm temps--really good coverage still but some crevices/water flows opened up in a couple places. Luckily it is supposed to cool off again so if they can get through today and part of tomorrow hopefully it will slow the melt.
Fun conditions though--very soft as it was like 50 degrees at 9am. I left at 11am as I only took a half day off work--it still wasn't sticky though even then.

It did get a little thick by noon, but still fun. Small bumps were starting to form on Smith. Slower snow, but as @NewEnglandSkier mentioned not sticky. I think it was around 63 when I quit at 12:30.

Senior games are tomorrow. I heard on the lift that it was tough conditions over the weekend for the Good Race and the Great Race.

I'm hoping to get back up to Wachusett at least a couple of weekend days this month. I forgot that I bought a Silver pass this year to use during early- and late-season weekends, and I want to make it worth it! Easier for work scheduling, too.

They are clearly expecting a fair amount of liquid precip tomorrow. They have already posted that they will be closed tomorrow and a delayed opening on Tuesday.
