So DH is out of town, and I defaulted to the brain-dead tv option known as Hallmark. I don't get it. Last year there was a Hallmark supposedly in VT but the ski scenes were filmed at Wachusett. In this movie, they implied that they would go to Wachusett, but it clearly wasn't there. It was filmed in BC. Just why?

It was a weird combination of clearly high alpine shots mixed with Wawa. They mostly filmed on the Vickery Bowl lift. Piece of Cake is the black diamond trail shown in the movie. They also filmed at the restaurant down the road.

I've no idea, but did this one also include a crown prince from a fictitious European country, which is set in Baviaria or Central Europe, where which everyone from the country somehow speaks perfect English with an RP British accent? Creative license is always a mystery.........

Glad you whiled the time away with Hallmark though. Had you said Lifetime, I'd be a right bit more cautious around you, lol.

I've no idea, but did this one also include
Standard Christmas themed mush, with the premise being a game show where two random contestants were paired up and had to follow riddles to the next location, ex-hockey player and school teacher, and so on. Another supposed location was Santa Fe, also filmed in Vancouver. Clearly I wasn't brain dead enough yet for a Hallmark ;)

Coverage is still looking pretty skimpy, but they have Challenger open now as well as Sundowner.
This coming week is looking pretty good for snowmaking though, and some real stuff in the forecast for Tuesday to boot. I'm somewhat considering the end of the week, but will be keeping an eye on the webcams in the meantime. If not this week, then next week for sure! Anyone else?

I'm hoping for maybe next week. I still have to get all my ski pants etc out of the attic and take the storage wax off my skis, but I haven't been in any rush due to them only having had Ralph's open. We'll see.

Sadly, a big no here - skis and bindings are still getting tuned and matched up to the new boots , also knee is still not right. May also have to go to FL before Christmas for a family matter. December is probably out, looking at January.

Have fun and report back - last I saw 6 - 9" for Wachusett.

Skied Wawa this morning, not crowded at all. Conditions were firm. Challenger was better than Ralph's.
That's good to hear. I skied there on Friday last week and it was pure ice at the 2nd half of Ralph's!

I got my first day of the season in at Wachusett yesterday. The conditions were decent. They were blowing snow like crazy, and it was wonderful to see the mountain covered in natural snow.

The big news of the day for me was that I bought new boots! Sheila at MNTSide was absolutely phenomenal. Last year at Diva East, @brooksnow gave me some extremely helpful suggestions on what to tell the ski shop about my skiing and what I was looking for. I skied eight runs in the afternoon, and it is a WORLD of a difference in the new boots. I seriously think I just experienced what ski boots are supposed to feel like for the first time. I am blown away. I also feel extremely fancy with BOA bindings.

Oof! Yesterday I saw on the events page that the ribbon cutting for the new lift would be on Friday Dec. 19, but..... I just now saw Jeff Crowley's video saying that unfortunately they've had to delay that until Jan 8. Big ouch for the holidays. In the mean time they are working hard to get snow on Mass Pike so they can open the lower parts of the summit runs.

Oh no! That is too bad. But it does sound like they hope to actually have it running for Xmas week but the "official" ribbon cutting/ceremony will be Jan 8. So maybe it will be running during the holiday? Kind of confusing in any event. Hopefully it can run for the holiday week.

Got in my first day of the season today. Conditions were very firm. Challenger was in the best shape and seemly others must have concurred, as it had the most people on it.
It was funny being there with the base being an active construction area--they were bringing chairs up on a trailer. Fair amount of trucks and ATVs zipping around so you had to look both ways before crossing to the lift.
Another thing I noticed was they replaced the 2 older heated benches with newer ones. One of them the seat didn't seem to be heating even though it was on, but the other one was fully working (feet and seat).
Is O'Briens normally up and running by this time in the season? I can't seem to recall--I feel like it usually is but they were not set up at all--no menu posted etc.
Overall a fun first day and not many people there in general which was great. Pretty windy though.

It was so windy and so cold today! Challenger was definitely better than the others.

Conditions are slowly improving. Hitchcock was skiing really nicely today, and Challenger and Ralph's are pretty much edge to edge now. I'd say the best run of the day though (but I only did it once since getting back to the lift is a pain) was lower Conifer. Mass Pike is open to give access to the lower parts of the summit runs. I didn't do any of the other lower runs though. From lower Smith you can cut back to Hitchcock just past the Vickery to get back to the lift, but for the rest you would have to skate or walk back. I've been opting to walk from the green side, there are just so many pebbles from the construction.

Anyone else planning on going Thursday? @JBM , you said Thurs is one of your usual days?

I was there today too! Agree that conditions are getting better. Much improved over when I was there last Thursday (very firm). Today was pretty good. It was softish. Hitchcock and Lower Smith Walton were my favorites of the day. I didn't get over to Conifer since getting back to the lift is a pain right now. Agree with @diymom and have been walking between the 2 lifts due to pebbles and the snow is really filled with dirt and salt right now in there and I like to preserve my bases.
Guns were on the lower parts of Ralphs and Challenger but it wasn't sticky at all.
I won't be getting back out now until after the holiday is done--hopefully the good conditions hold out. Friday is not looking good right now for weather.

Yes! I have my daughter's school event in the morning so I will probably get there a bit later than usual.
@diymom Will you be there this Thursday?

I will be. I usually boot up at the tables near the restrooms by the cafeteria. I'll PM with my kit colors since this isn't a MOTH thread.
