@Divegirl and I went to the Labor Day event yesterday again. The skyride was a round trip around the bull wheel on the Polar Express lift, so not quite the same as last year's ride to the summit, but the view was still quite nice coming down. I'd say the highlight was seeing all of the Doppelmayr parts in the parking lot, waiting for installation day.

Word is that the old Minuteman lift is not being sold, but rather they will be using it for parts if needed on the other lifts.

As we were walking up to the lodge we just happened to run into Carolyn which was perfect as I was hoping to ask someone in the know about the projected opening dates, and who would be more in the know than one of the owners? I had remembered seeing a slightly later than usual Dec. 7 or something like that due to work on the new lift. Good news is I was only partially correct. They are hoping to start spinning the new 6 pack to the summit on Dec. 9, and the plan is to open the rest of the mountain around Black Friday as usual.

I didn't ask about a date for the Wine, Cheese, Chicks, and Skis event, but that will be happening again too.

I might regret it since I'll be jet-lagged, but I just signed up for the annual Wine, Cheese, Chicks, and Skis event on Nov 7. Anyone else going?

I am on Carv, though I don’t often ski at Wachusett. There IS a Ski Diva Carv group, or there was last year… I’m not sure if that feature is fully returning this season or not.

Surprise! Wachusett announced they’re opening early, on this Saturday, 11/22. Weekdays next week TBD based on weather/conditions.

I saw that! I'm a little surprised. I have been keeping an eye on the forecast for there, and the webcams for what they had down already and wasn't even sure if they'd make their usual day after Thanksgiving opening.

I cannot imagine Wachusett is happy about this morning's rain for opening day! (Am I right that this was not forecasted? I was surprised to wake up to rain.)

They've announced that the summit lift target opening has been pushed back to Dec. 19th. I am not surprised. Someone told me over the summer (while on a mountain summit in NH, ha, small world) that they knew staff working on the project and that they really needed more help.

The snow report just says "cloudy", while the webcam clearly shows rain drops in the pond.
But no, I wasn't expecting rain today either, and I'm guessing they weren't either when they announced the early opening. My poor boys are not happy with their delayed walk, and I'm thinking I'm just going to have to suck it up and put on my rain coat in a minute.

When @Divegirl and I were at Wachusett this fall I had a chance to talk to Carolyn about the new lift and the time frame. She indicated that there had been some frustrating hold ups (permitting?) along the way early on. But tbh, early season coverage to the summit isn't usually the best anyways and likely mostly passholders on the hill still. As long as they can keep to this new date and have it running for vacation time I don't see an issue.
