Woohoo, @Divegirl ! It's fun to be in the daily videos. It's only happened to me once, but I was happy with how my skiing looked

How is coverage doing? I saw the snow report today, and the temps are starting at 40 and getting up to 60. I would like to get a few more days in there there, but I'm worried they'll switch to weekends only soon.

I hope not! Seems very early to switch to weekends only. I am planning on going on Thursday this week.

For some reason I'm remembering them going weekends only around mid March last year, but I could be wrong. I get back from Idaho on Friday, so will start keeping an eye on Wachusett weather again and keep my fingers crossed for next week.

They've shortened the hours - night skiing ends at 7 now. Nothing on closing mid-week yet. They claim they will be open into April - pond skim is 4/5. If I remember correctly Wachusett has to give Ropers and Mass Pike back to the DCR on or by 4/15 so they can open the roads to cars and bikes.

The conditions are decent. I spent yesterday on the lower blues as there were quite a few patches of ice/hardpack even early in the morning on all trails. I figured the upper blues would be just as patchy especially conifer. While the overall "coverage" is still good the "ski-able" snow in my opinion is wearing out - not much refreshing since mid-feb. Getting sown to the base hardpack/ice. I did see some brownish snow on Look Mom and some craters around the lift poles on look mom where melting was going on.

I'm going tomorrow. That may be my last day as the 10 day forecast has warm temps and rain coming in over the weekend. I may try to sneak in next Tuesday depending what the weather over the weekend does.

Decided not to go today - the conditions aren't really worth the long drive. If the weather changes or something else pops up - I may go again but I think this year is over for me.

Looks like Friday might start out ok. Unfortunately that is the morning I get home. Tuesday might be my best bet for next week.

I plan to be there tomorrow. I expect it will start off firm since it appears it will drop below freezing overnight but the high is supposed to be like 42 I'm seeing so it should soften up---but it says it will be mostly cloudy so maybe it won't get too mushy. We'll see.

Went to Wachusett today and skied 9-12:30. The forecast ended up being wrong and it was sunny all day--but it was just below freezing overnight as it said 30 when I arrived. he snow started off slightly soft and of course softened more as the day went on, but it didn't get sticky. I didn't find any ice or real hard pack on the lower mountain. Once I got to the summit I found hardpack under the soft snow. I skied every open run except Balance Rock. Upper 10th had some icy hardpack in spots but you could mostly avoid it. Conifer skied pretty well I thought and Upper Smith Walton had more consistent harpack but since it was consistent it was fine to ski. Sometimes I skip Look Mom because it looks or sounds icy but today it skied well. They still have good edge to edge coverage but it is supposed to R@*n this weekend after being warm this weekend as well so not sure how it will ultimately fare but right now it's still good!

I agree with everything @NewEnglandSkier said; the conditions were surprisingly good today. I also skied every open trail, which was a fun way to spend the day. Upper Smith was one and done for me, but skiable. Snow crew/patrol were working on breaking up one-half of the flatter portion before the pitch with shovels and metal ice picks, which I've never seen before. Even the green trails didn't get slow. It was really an ideal spring ski day. Between 12:30-1:00, the bottoms of all the trails were getting sloppier and sloppier, so I called it a day. I think they'll lose some trails with the coming rain.

I wondered what was going on with that flat part of Smith. There wasn't anyone working on it when I went by, but it was all blocked off with bamboo and had been broken up into chunks. it must have been pretty solid for them to have to do that!

I was just checking the weather forecast for this week, trying to figure out which day might be best. Then I thought to check the Wachusett site. Glad I did. They will be closed both Monday and Tuesday to preserve snow. That narrows down my choices.

Snow report for March 20-
Not too bad. It was a 2 tower visibility day on the lower mountain to start, going down to 1 tower at late morning until the sun broke through a little before noon. The snow is looking a bit dingy but was still skiing nicely early on. Coverage was good on the lower runs. Conifer looked and skied a bit dingier, but still acceptably. Tenth looked fine from the lift, and I noticed the bumps were gone. I was surprised that upper balance rock was still open, especially as they have started piling snow for harvesting in other places already. Things started getting thick and heavy around noon, so that seemed like a good time to call it.

For anyone interested, the demo ski sell off will be next Thurs on the 27 th.

And finally, I’m still not sure what to think of Wachusett installing a 6 pack, but it’s gonna be pretty comfy.

I think in the past you could call to purchase? But then you would have to pick up in person, or have someone else pick up for you.
