Picked up a pair if skis yesterday. I don't think wachusett will b open on Friday. This was over by the magic carpet. Lots of patches here & on conifer & the run out from look mom.

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on the web cams. It looked more hopeful last week when the forecast was for more cold and less rain. I still have my fingers crossed for maybe a few runs under the lights on Monday before the tuning clinic. Looking at the 10 day they should have snow making temps starting this Friday.

Yeah, I've been looking at the webcams and it doesn't look promising for their original target date. It is supposed to get colder though for next week.

Overnight temps are looking good for the next 10 days. And with a few new guns added, hopefully they will post a new opening date. I have my fingers crossed for some green runs next Friday. And also hoping to not have to ski under the guns when they are able to open.

I like the new walkways. There were some days last season where it smelled a tad barn-yard-y from the straw on mud, which was hard to navigate around. Curious to see what the new teaching terrain next to Monadnock will look like. As it is, I don't think I've ever seen the "teaching meadow" area at the top of the greens open, or even with enough snow around that magic carpet for it to be used. Hmm, looking at the trail map, the teaching meadow carpet at the top of Sundowner isn't on the map. Maybe they are actually talking about that one, and plan to start using it this year. I think that is a good way to spread out the newbies on the run. As, once the beginners move from the bunny hill on Ollies they are all concentrated on the Easy Rider section of the greens until they are ready for a longer run. Adding in the magic carpet at the top of Sundowner means being able to move novices up to a combination of chair and upper carpet for some drills, and ease students into longer runs.

The guns are on and even though they lifts aren't spinning yet, I do see some activity at the base. I'm guessing it might be the class to become an instructor, making the most of what they have so far.

Opening day is Thursday, Dec 5. I'm debating Thursday vs. Friday. At least not being on a weekend it shouldn't be too much WROD. Anyone else thinking of getting some early season turns in this week?

Also, from today through Friday, Dec 6 they are running a cyber special of 10% off COW cards (Card of Wachusett gift card.) I'll only be able to make 4 of the 6 dates of the women's clinic, but I'm leaning towards signing up. In which case, I'll buy the COW card first for the discount and then register for the clinic.

I'm aiming for sometime next week. I can't go on Thursday and my pass is only good Mon-Thurs, so will hope for next week sometime. Lots of good snowmaking weather ahead according to the forecasts.

I am thinking about going to the Demo Day at Wachusett on 12/14 but the forecast has temps in the high 50s with lots of rain on Wed. I'd like to wait until Thursday, after the rain, to buy my ticket. Does this event typically sell out?

Yes, it has sold out in the past. Weds is looking ick, but the days following are all sunny and dry, with cold over night temps. The rain will drain through, they will re-groom and almost certainly blow more overnight to keep building their base and get ready to open up more terrain. I wouldn't worry too much about the conditions.

I've done it before and had fun trying out different skis, but keep in mind that the brand reps don't always bring a range of sizes, so if you need shorter you might have slim pickings. Doing a personal demo day might be better if you are actively looking for a ski and not just doing it for fun. Another bonus to a personal demo day is you can keep the skis out for as long as you want. With tents you should limit yourself to a couple of runs per ski and swap out so others can have a go on it too.

I don't think there are conflicting demo days this year, but in previous years the Wachusett one was on the same day as a bigger hill, and guess where the reps sent more of their skis :( Ken Jones also has their early season demo day coming up at Waterville this Friday. Oh, and last I knew Wachusett didn't carry Blizzard, so they didn't have any reps at their demo day.

I'm planning to ski Wachusett tomorrow and possibly Friday now that my pass will be valid again. I got one day in before the holiday week. From what I've heard, the holiday crowds have not been as crazy this year. I've peeked at the cams a few times and have been surprised at how few people there seem to be.

Agreed about the relative calm looking at the web cams. The people who would have happily skied spring conditions mid-winter had their passes blacked out. The ones who might have bought a window ticket don't know that the snow can still be great, and stayed home.

I'll be there either Thurs or Friday depending on when my brother is hoping for my help with his grocery shopping, but likely on Friday. So far I have one real day and one additional hour when I decided it would make the drive to Brattleboro to get the kid better if I took a little break on the way  I'm also hoping for Monday or Tuesday next week to get a little more into the groove before the women's clinic starts on Thursday.
