WAA/multi day clinics

Who's done (taken or coached) multi day clinics in general, or WAA or ESA in particular? What were your experiences? Do you take lessons throughout the season as well? How do you feel they relate to taking regular one hour privates with the same instructor (or whatever type of lessons you take) in terms of progress made?

Hey Num,
I am one of the coaches at our WAA program! I think the benefits of these types of programs are many. One is you can link many days in a row with the same intructor refining specific movements.Another is the commraderie that develops within the group over the days or weeks time.I think the cost is much lower than taking 5 or 6 one hour privates. Our program includes breakfast ,lunch and a coctail hour the first evening. We have 2 day 3 day and 5 day programs.I love being involved in this program and can't wait for this year to start!

I took a 2-day WAA course at Okemo in Feb. 06 and highly recommend it. I prefer to work in a small group over a space of several days than a private because I learn so much from the other students and it's also less tiring because there are rest periods where you watch the other members of your group ski. It's fun to watch your group mates improve, and it's also much more economical than a private although sometimes a private lesson is just what's needed. My only complaint about WAA was that the food was so good that I over ate!

I must say that I have absolutely loved the Women's Alpine Adventure at Okemo. Tcarey and cnewbound have been fantastic instructors! I think I have attended every year for the last 6 years or so. The instruction is superb. The comraderie of learning and skiing with other women has been awesome. I think my skiing and confidence have sky rocketed since I've taken the WAA clinics.

Most importantly, I have learned a variety of techniques and skills that have enabled me to ski in a variety of conditions and terrain - so that I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I can get down any trail on the mountain.

Finally, the program has been loads of fun! :D I highly recommend it.

I am a big fan of WAA, too. Lola and her husband gave me my first WAA clinic for a Christmas several years ago. They felt I had gotten to a place where I was afraid to ski. I , of course, resisited that view. I soon figured out that I had regressed in my skiing.

The WAA clinic gave me some of my confidence back by being in a very supportive environment for learning while teaching me real usable skills. Maria Tomeselli, the director of the program, conducts a fear talk as part of the clinic. I saw myself in all of her examples. But, better than that, she gave me ideas about what I could do to manage my fear.

Over the years (Lola, I think this year will be 8 for us) I have gotten better and better and my fear has grown smaller and smaller. Both Terry Carey and Crystel Newbound have a lot to do with that. The clinic is a great value for the $$. AND, it really pampers the attendees.

This year I hope to host 5 returning participants and 4 new ones in my home for the February 3 Day. I would love to see more Divas there.:snow:

I have actually signed myself up for the 5 day WAA at the end of January. I've never been to a multi-day clinic....looking forward to it!!
