Ski Diva Extraordinaire
I got to do a surprise demo day on 3/6/08 and I have not had the time to post on the rest of the skis I tried that day so here it goes. I already posted on the Fischer Vision Breeze and Exhale that I loved. Everything I skied is next year's stuff, all 2009 skis. I am sorry that the reviews are so short. It has been 2 weeks since I skied on them and a lot has happened since then, look under DOD.
I am 5'2" 120lbs. I have been a ski instructor for 26 years. I like short slalom skis but I can ski anything when I have too.
Conditions started out great some firm but softening snow it warmed up to about 50 degrees that day and it turned into eastern spring conditions.
Volkl Fuego in a 154cm: This is a nice ski that holds an edge and tracks well. It only likes to do one turn size at one speed. It likes to lock you into a turn. I prefer a ski that let's me decide what turn size, shape and speed. I know there are a lot of you that love this ski. You don't need to tell me. I just did not really like it.
Roxy ski in a 154cm. I am sorry that I did not find out what Roxy ski this was. I really liked this ski. It was the surprise of the day for me. It was very easy to turn. It was willing to do any turn size and shape I asked of it with a smile. The only thing it did not like was the really heavy stuff at the bottom of the trail. It was not enough ski for me but I still had fun on it.
It had very loud graphics all white with a black pattern. When I get the chance I will try another Roxy.
Nordica Olympia Speed in a 154cm: I skied this in a 146cm in Dec on soilid ice and I had fun on it. In the 154cm it was to long.:( The one thing I did notice in both lengths is that it only likes to rail straight down the fall line, this is all it wants to do. I tried to pull it out and make it do turns of other shapes and sizes but it was not happy. It does track well.
Head Power One in a 154cm: This is a narrow ski. It holds a nice edge. It did not like the heavy stuff I was skiing it in. The one thing I really did not like about this ski was how badly it tracked. I had to really pay attention to where my inside ski was. On my first turn it almost dumped me because the inside ski did not turn.
When you get used to skis that track well it is scary when you get on one that doesn't!!
Elan Speed Magic 154cm: This was another ski that liked to do only one turn at one speed. It held an edge and did not mind the deep stuff. It was like riding on a buck board though, it is really in need of some dampening. It was a rough ride, like a truck without any shocks. The last Elan I skied had the same feel.
Line Ski a Twin Tip: This was my first twin tip. I think it was a 162cm. It was too long for me. It was nice in the deep stuff. It was easy to turn but I really had to get forward on it. I mean really forward, this is coming from a girl that is always forward on her skis. It was smooth and stable, a nice ride. It was a nice ski but too wide for me. These wide skis really hurt my ankles. I am sorry I did not catch the name on the ski other than Line.
The Fischers I skied on this day were my favorites. I had a blast on them. I love doing demo days because every run is a new adventure.
I am sorry that I did not get to ski on more skis but I ran out of time. I really need this demo day to be 2 days.
