Volkl Kiku

I demoed these in November and now have my very own pair. I was formally skiing the Fischer Porohete which is 106 under foot and 180cm long.

I was hesitant to try a women's specific ski and I wasn't looking for new powder skis...or any new skis as I've already got an arsenault. LOL...

However, my husband desperately wanted to try out the Gotama and they couldn't adjust the binding to fit his ski..and they were already out so I couldn't try them for him.. so they put me on the women's version of the Gotama, the Kiku.

The first few runs weren't that great ..took me a little time to find out how to ski them as they are 105 under foot....the length is 168 and shorter than I'm used to.... when I hit my 4th run it was TRUE LOVE.

I have never skied such a versatile ski.. it's light and can be moved easilly but manages the hard stuff as well with a typical Volkl edge..the width gives it more stability in place of stiffness.

I can not wait to get these skis out west in 2 weeks. I hope everyone out there feels this way about their skis..

What about the Porohete did you not like? Or what did you prefer in the Kiku? They are similar underfoot, so I'm curious as to the difference in skiing.

I also demo'd the Kiku in a 168cm, just didn't buy them.

I love the porohete, but it is very long and heavier than the kiku. I found it hard for me to negotiate in the trees especially and I did a lot of front summersaults when I got tired!

The Kiku is lighter, easier to manuver and has just enough tail ..I can control it and keep myself from going airborn..unintentially!

YOU are a bad, bad influence on me. LOLOLOL. My husband is going to be like, "You don't need new skis" and will say, "But T has like, a dozen skis!"

I think I am going to Nashoba Valley tomorrow and there is a place near there that says they carry the Kikus, and the Blizzard I want to try.

I have to agree with you on the volkl's. I just purchased the tierra's, and fell in love too. the first run was a little strange, but figured it out very quickly, now can't wait to go out west too. hopefully utah in feb, tahoe in march, or vise versa, at this point don't care. At first I was leaning toward the k2 burnin luv, everyone raved about them, but too skinny for out west powder. and at my "local" ski shop, the boot tech was pushing the tierra's. good all around ski, and agressive too! can't say enough about em, love em, love em, love em!!

So, how have your Kikus been working out? Do you do any switch skiing or jumps/terrain park features in the park or out on the mountain? Although the Kikus are billed as a powder ski, they are rated as decent in the park....

Well, I'm excited. A friend of mine just purchased next year's Kikus and says she'll let me demo them. Although she got them shorter than I would like and definitely shorter than I think is right for her in a 170.

Are next year's Kikus rockered? I feel like I read that somewhere but now I think maybe I just made it up.

That just makes them even more tempting! You'll have to let us know what you think of them!

I will. The person who got them didn't know her BSL so I'm not sure yet if we'll be able to share. She put Griffons on them. But, like I said, I think she sold herself short since my mid-fats are 176 and she's a good 3-4 inches taller than me. :noidea:

How do they differ than this year's model? I don't know what "rockered" means.... :noidea:

Basically it means that unlike a traditional ski where the tip and tail have more contact with the snow and the ski rises under foot a rockered ski has more contact with the snow under foot and is raised at the tip and tail. It is supposed to greatly improve powder performance. It is also called reverse camber.

Thanks, that makes sense. Are the Praxis skis that I've read about on the forum rockered? How about the K2 Obsethed (sp) skis that Skigirl27 bought? Are they rockered too?

Sounds like if I demo the '09 Kikus they won't ski the same as the '10s will.

amanda

I don't know anything about the Praxis but the K2 Obsethed is rockered. The 2009 and 2010 Kikus will probably ski a bit different. But I don't know how much of a difference there will be. You could demo the 2009 and the 2010 and let us know how different they are.:becky:

If only! No such demos here on the East Coast, nor are conditions usually calling for such a pow ski, but I'll see what I can rustle up in CO for demos~
