Volkl Fuego vs. Tiger Shark?

New to the site girls...I have been reading ski diva, and finally decided to join in. I think all the additional ski talk will just get me to spend more than I already do! Demo'd the Tiger Shark 10 foot, LOVED THEM..has anyone skiied both Tiger Shark and Fuego? Are there any similiarities between the two? The guy at my shop will sell me his wife's Fuegos for $450, bought last year, but I have not skiied them yet. I am a high intermediate skier, like speed, like both short snappy turns, and long turns, or no turns at all!! No good in bumps, but would like to get there one day. Would like something nice in soft stuff, which we rarely get in NE, but stable on ice like the fabulous Volkls always are!! Am currently on 9 year old Atomic 9-18's, loved them new, hate them now. Have been on Atomic Heavens Gate, Cloud 9's, Rossi (can't remember model) K2 Bunin Luv, Volkl Tiger Shark- all demos last year and this year. Liked the Tiger Sharks the best.

It is my understanding that the Tiger Shark 10 foot is the man's version of the Fuego. The Fuego is made for a woman and is a softer ski. HTH.

If you like the Tigersharks I see no reason to go for the Fuegos since they really are a different ski (besides dimensions.) Is the only reason for considering the Fuegos the deal from the shop? The Fuego is the counterpart to the 10, but lighter, shorter, easier to flex and mounted a bit further up. So it has the dimensions of the Tigershark, but will definitely feel different.

I've found out the hard way to just go with what you have skied instead of speculating on how a similar ski or different length will compare. If you like it go for it, unless you can demo the Fuego in the exact length you would be buying.

To answer your question about the similarities between the Fuego and the 10ft.....they are the same ski except the Fuego has a lower tip profile, a lighter core, and a 1.5cm forward mount point (although I believe it can be mounted standard as well, but ask your shop guy).

What is the length difference between the 10ft that you demoed and "the wife's" Fuegos? If the length is the same, you'll find the Fuego to have the same grip but it'll be lighter and quicker to start the turn.

I demoed the 12ft PS in a 170cm and found it to be a beast, while the Fuego in 154 and 161 were fun, zippy, and snappy, with the 161 having more stability at speed.

I skiied the Tiger Shark in a 161, and the wife's Fuego's are 154. I think. I have been on demos from the very short end- Heavens Gate 150, only size in shop, up to the Tiger Shark, K2 Burnin Luv, and Elan Speed Magic in 161 I think. I think probably the 161 in everything I have tried is about right. I was on the A30 in a 164, and seemed to fight them a bit in the soft stuff last week. I was adament I would never buy a ski without first skiing it, but can't seem to find the Fuego to demo in the right size.

It really seems like the way to go is the TS since you liked them so much...

I second this. If you loved the Tiger Shark, I don't see any compelling reason for you to go to the Fuego, and, because you loved the TS, I certainly wouldn't buy the Fuego without demoing it first. You might find that you don't care for its women specific attributes and prefer the TS. Also, If you loved the TS in a 161, I think the Fuego in a 154 might be a bit short for you.

Well, i finally demo'd the Fuego's, and it was true love at first turn. They are lightening, and a breeze to drive! Everything a ski for me should be! So, now the quest to find a pair for short dough. I demo'd them twice, a week apart, the first pair were 2009 160's, the next week I was on last years, and they only had 154's in. I did not think they held on some icy patches at all, probably the tune. I did read a bunch of big reviews on this sight on the Fisher Vision Breeze, and since I have not found the Fuego's for under $600, the Fisher reviews certainly caught my attention. Might get one more day out this season, and will try to track down a pair. Any opinions out there on the Fisher?? They are quite a bit cheaper.

I didn't try the Fishers. All I know is that I LOVE my Fuegos. I have grown more in love with them every time I ski them.

In search for a Fuego in 161 cm, I see a lot of Tigersharks on the secondary market. Any idea why there are so many of then for sale?

Better take a look at the post dates on those posts...2009. Fuego hasn't been made probably since then.
