Ski Diva Extraordinaire
Me: 5'8", 155 lbs.
Skis: Volkl Bridge, 169. They're twin tips. I noticed that the tails of these are quite narrow compared to other powder skis I've tried.
First 2 days: Beaver Creek. We got a good dumping a few days prior, however, the winds were so high it made blew the powder into a windblown crusty snow. There were a few stashes here & there. The Bridges have a very nice grip on the hard stuff. The winds were so high, we took 4 runs & the lifts closed down. Went back out around 1pm & skied the rest of the day. Day 2 was better with a heavier chopped powder. Bridges went through the chop nicely.
Second 2 days: Steamboat. Day 1 - super sunny, soft snow, warm temps. Finally!! Time to test these babies out. Lots of pop in these skis, they're quick and responsive. I liked the way they performed in the bumps & have a feeling it's due to their skinnier tails. I also loved the twin tips - traversing backwards is much easier. Still...I was not in LOVE with them. Day 2 was cloudy & the snow was bulletproof. It was a groomer day with super fast speeds. I felt comfortable at very high speeds on the Bridges - no chatter, just the right length. They transition nicely from big GS turns to quick turns.
I know this review isn't very good...but probably because I was not wowed by the skis. I just didn't "feel" it with them. I think the Bridges are made for tricksters who are also looking for an all-mountain ski. Personally, I'm searching for a great burly powder ski...and I found that in the Mantra.
Time to spend!
