Question: Volkl Blaze 86?

I would definitely have a shop check the tune. Where do you usually take your skis? Go there.

my Blaze 104s are scheduled to arrive next Thursday!
Usually go to Tahoe Dave's in Tahoe City .....
Yay on your new Blaze's. They will be super fun!

I’m definitely curious about the Blaze 104… haven’t been able to get on them yet. I ski the 159 Blaze 86 whereas usually I would go for the 166 length, so unsure if I would want to similarly downsize in the 104?

I didn’t size down, but I’m looking for something for powder and the extra length should help with flotation. I got the 165 which is in my usual ballpark. They were super surfy and fun in the spring corn and just busted through the piles. The 4D radius made them super turny and turn initiation was a breeze! They come next week so I look forward to putting them through their paces.

What's the 2026 top sheet? Did they change the ski at all from 25?

You might not ski your other skis after taking them out. Plus had so much fun on the wider Sheeva 10's (this year early season felt like the Sheeva 9's not that great). They were so versatile! Skied every day for 2 weeks and so much better than the 9's. No knee issues at all...... a little heavier to carry b/c of width but the performance was awesome.

I (almost) have some buyers remorse (except so cheap) purchasing the Blaze 86's and wondering if the 152 will feel too short. My other skis are 156 and 157 so not a huge difference. And will I even like a narrower ski? I wasn't that impressed with the skis I demoed at Rose. Maybe it was just an off day for me?

It depends on the ski. I love my Ranger 84s -and REALLY like the Mantra 84 - both on piste and off piste. If there are large spring pikes (aka berms) I feel more secure on my Secrets but they are are also heavier and less playful. I’m hopeful the Blaze 104 will fill that gap!

They are in my cart but I haven't pulled the trigger. Undecided if I should go with the Tyrolia TX 10 bindings or search something else. I know nothing about bindings and I have no idea of my delta preference LOL. Just went to go look at my current bindings (on my BP 88s) since I'm happy with them- they are demo bindings but I can't see a brand name/logo on them.
Finally pulled the trigger on these, after forgetting about them for a few weeks-- still available and the 10% discount was still good. Hope I like them!

OH MY! The Blaze 104s are even more versatile than I realized from the demo. I have taken them out in spring conditions 2days in a row- everything from hard morning groomers to slush bumps to softening coral reef. These babies do it all! I was really surprised at how well they skied the firm morning groomers - including a race track. I didn't take them in any real bumps because it was a no bail out situation and I couldn't tell if they were soft yet. In slush bumps they were super fun and in the softening coral reef, I intentionally picked up speed to see what they would do. AGILE! They executed fast short turns easily on uneven ground. I love these skis!

You'll have to bring them to Heavenly for the slush bumps on Meteor that I love (the ones that weren't soft when you were there) but usually are.

I have the Blaze 106s (couple years old) and they are amazing. Very versatile.

You've had good luck with Volkl skis, if I recall. Enjoy!

I've mostly switched to Stockli but still have my 2024 Volks Kenjas which are amazing. Plus my Blaze 106s which are outstanding. I have a pair of Volks 86s that I may be selling. They are fine but just don't have the vavoom my other Volk's have. Want to ski them a couple more times for certain.

Just the fact that you love the Kenjas tells me the Blaze 86 likely isn’t the best match ever lol. I’m the exact opposite in terms of type of ski I like, and well I love the Blaze 86 and have never much liked the Kenja.

You aren't wrong. I'll likely ski thr Blaze 86 one or two more times but it'll be listed for sale soon. I do however, love my Blaze 106s.

We do have a couple loved skis in common.

The Stockli Stormrider 85 motion

Plus thanks to you I demoed the blizzard black pearl 94 and am now looking for a pair of those.

I loved skiing my Sheeva 10's so much the last 25 days or so I skied that I'm wondering if I will even like the Blaze 86's. I know I wasn't enjoying the Sheeva 9's this season. They seemed blah.
