Question: Volkl/Binding

This forum is a wealth of information. I so appreciate being able to read and learn form all of your responses to other's questions. :hail:

I haven't found much educational info in the forums specifically about bindings though, so I have a couple of questions.

I think I have seen the Volkl Fuego advertised with both the m11tc and m12tc Marker binding. Is it common to see integrated systems with more than one binding model available?

Other than the m12 accomodating a heavier skiier are there other significant differences in the two?

Also, what is a "railflex" binding and which manufacturers make them? Advantages?

Thanks in advance

Ok..so my details could be off on this because we dealt with this at the beginning of the season so if im wrong i apologize but we had this issue at my store with the volkl tierra. Most stores had it with the M11tc and we had it with the M12tc and so our prices were a little different. Usually the number denotes the highest DIN setting but also (i think) one has the piston while the other doesnt. I know our tierra's with the M12tc were the pistons. The piston arm helps absorb viberations in the ski so its a more expensive binding. This is the only reason it makes sense to have two different bindings available on a system ski (since a DIN setting of 12 vs. 11 is so close) and no, i dont think it is very common. As for railflex head/tyrolia makes them but we are not carrying them until next year so I have little info on them.

Indeed. The Fuego is available with the M11 (max DIN setting of 11) without the piston, and with the M12 (max DIN of 12) with the piston. The piston will help to quiet the ski down on hard pack but is more expensive.
