Volkl Aura vs. Salomon Scarlet

Ok ladies....if one more dude tells me I don't want either one of these skis, I'm going to be convicted of a serious crime....

I'm committed....it's one or the other. But, here's the deal...I'm an East Coast Girl. Which, according to all the boys out here, means I can't handle the fatties....

Problem is...I friggin' love 'em! I have been skiing on the K2 Phat Luvs, but have decided that they're a bit too soft. I like to ski really hard and want something that can carve and float. I am a very athletic, 5'1" and 115 pounds. The K2's I'm on are are 153's.

Has anyone taken these other two ladies out this year? Any help you could offer would be great! Thanks!

(p.s. So psyched....this is my first post and I've been waiting anxiously to ask you all about these two skis!!)

Although I'm taller and heavier than you—5'7" and 145 pounds, I love the Aura. I'm skiing it in a 163, but I could easily go for a 170. I use the Aura as an all mountain ski, everything from fast groomers to powder. In really deep powder, though, I ski a Prior Doughboy.

I haven't skied the Scarlet, but last year I skied the Phat Luv in a 153 as my off-piste ski. I loved the Phat Luv until I bought the Aura. The Aura is just so much more versatile than the Phat Luv. It's better balanced than the Phat Luv, and it gives me better float. The Aura also performs awesomely on groomers. You can put it on edge and just cruise.

I'm so glad you posted this.
The Aura is one ski I have really wanted to demo and no one has it in a demo fleet. You won't have to guess what I'll buy next just so I can try it out.

I actually haven't been on either of the skis mentioned, but I certainly wouldnt' be afraid of skiing on a midfat/fat ski in the east or midwest. The newer skis like those listed are advertised to be versatile and yet phenomenal to carve as well as hit the powder when necessary.

just got the 154 scarlet and skied three days last weekend. i thought it was great. it turned quick but was stable going straight and fast. i think it will be a good bump ski and it clung to the hardpan surprisingly well. it didn't wash out at all. i think it is going to be a very versatile ski not just a powder specialist.

Yes you do!;)

Now just to convince my husband that I NEED another Twin:rolleyes:
(I need another ski like Terry needs another .................dirtbike!)

Psst, did I tell you I got the snoop daddy? I was going to keep it for me but think I may make it Terry's birthday present and put a demo binding on it, so he can share:p

Did you find this ski to "ski short"?

I would think you'd go the next size longer. If you had, do you think the properties of the ski would lend to a different ski experience?

i never know exactly what someone is meaning when they talk about 'skiing short'. it would be nice to try the next length up and compare but i think it would have all the same properties, just ski with a larger radius. the ski has a pretty pronounced camber,so i would think you can get too long depending on your weight and strength making it harder to engage the sidecut? i think it can be easy to go too long on modern skis.

On skiing short - I tried the same ski this year, 2 different lengths. The longer ski appeared stiffer and acted better than the short. 154 vs 160 on an all mountain ski. The radius was different, but it was the way the ski reacted to my weight made the difference.
