Volkl Aura vs Kiku

Has anyone compared these two skis? My BF rides the Gotama and swears by them, thought that the Kiku might be a good option for me...thoughts??

I don't know about the Kiku.

I predict that on this forum, the Divas will sing the Aura's praises.

Just based on the "aura love" of the past posts.

Oragejuice posted a review of the Kiku. It's wider and is a twin tip, so it will perform differently than the Aura. I love the Auras, as do many Divas, but given the cost of these skis, I would demo both before deciding. The Auras are also probably more versatile in terms of ski conditions.

It really helps to know what type of skier you are and where/what conditions you prefer to ski.

I am an advanced skiier. I am also starting to get into ski touring and b/c skiing. I currently have a pair of Solomon Guns which I really like. I am looking for a second pair of fat skis that are a bit heavier.

I have the Auras, and demo'd the Kikus a few weeks ago.

The Aura is the womens' version of the Mantra, and the Kiku is the women's version of the Gotama.

The Kiku is similar in feel to the Aura, but wider at the waist and a bit stiffer. I would say the Aura is more an all-mountain ski, while the Kiku is more deep powder and crud specific.

I think your Salomon Gun is the newer version of the Salomon Pocket Rockets that I had a few years ago. The Auras are going to be similar to the Guns in size and performance. I demo'd the Auras and preferred them over my Pocket Rockets, so I sold the PRs and got the Auras. If you are looking for a ski to replace the Guns, get the Auras. If you want an additional ski that is more powder and backcountry specific, keep the Guns and get the Kikus.

Thanks! I was leaning toward the Kikus but wasn't sure if they would be too similar to my Guns....sounds like they would be the perfect complement to my Guns. Bring on the POW!!

For Stevens Pass? Ehhhhhh, I don't think I would buy the Kiku for anything that you guys get up there. The Aura is absolutely fabulous, maybe get it longer than your Guns? The Kiku will mostly suck on anything groomed, and bumps too. If you plan on using them for JUST backcountry, then wooo!
