Volkl Attiva: Luna, Aire, Other?

Hola Divas!

Looking for any ideas about the Volkl Attivas, specifically the Luna and the Aire.

Here's me: 5'6, 123#, non-aggressive advanced skier as far as groomers go, woefully inept on anything else. Skiing K2 Blackhawk160s now and have never really skied anything else except Salomon Pilots.

Looking for something to help me jump up to a higher comfort and skill level (yes, I know lessons and miles contribute to this too!) in the bumps, powder and cruddy gunk. Oh, I'm new to skiing too, shall we say I discovered it late in life, so not looking to start hucking cliffs anytime soon, just some new boards that will support my learning goals.

I'm hardly a gear head and don't understand much about ski construction, bindings, etc. I leave that to DH as that's HIS bag, bless his heart (and tuning kit!).

I know demo is the name of the game, so suggestions about what I might try would be great!

Demo the Luna. I have this ski from the 06/07 line and it's a great ski for groomers, ice, and mixed conditions (though not deep powder). It's an excellent ski to help you transition to mixed terrain. It does have a speed limit however.

First of all I just want to thank all the Divas on their comments, wisdom, and advice which ultimately helped me to make the right choice in buying my Attiva Luna skis. I am so thrilled with them! Volkl's description as well as the Ski Divas' assessments have been right on the money! I was only able to demo the AC2's (last year's equivalent of the Luna) which had me grinning from ear to ear at the end of the day so I took the plunge and bought the Lunas online and went up to the snow 2 weekends ago. My DH was amazed at how confident I looked and skied. He said my style completely changed and that I actually looked like a real skiier LOL! I would classify myself as a solid intermediate skier who can ski down easy black groomers without problem. Like you, Toucan, I want to improve but don't plan on jumping off any cliffs-- ever. I just wanted a fun ski that could handle Colorado and Utah's dry fluffy snow as well as cruise through the heavy wet California snow that I'm used to. Even though the Luna is not a super fast ski (which I'm fine with) it is 'energetic' if that makes any sense to you. Hope this helps. :D

I definitely agree with both ladies above. I bought the Lunas this year and absolutely love them. I have improved so much this season thanks to these skis. I do wish I got the longer ones though. Oh well. The Lunas will be a backup - Auras here I come!

Found the Luna in 156, skied 'em, and bought 'em! Now...I Love 'em! Sweet little ski that makes my old K2s feel like lead weights.

Betting that the Luna will be a transitional ski for me, to help me get more comfortable on ungroomed runs. Tried 'em on the groomers: sweeeeeeeeet! Tried 'em on the sloppy melted gunk....plowed right through stuff my K2s would have nearly stopped dead in. Tried 'em on some tiny bumps...hey, not bad! No powder test runs, but so far so good!
