Vail's plan for new parking lot at Mt. Sunapee throws a spotlight on some looming sewage issues

Ski Diva Extraordinaire
Not a super pleasant topic, but conservation groups say that Vail wants to create a drop-off area in the main lot by the base lodge. In part to make up for the lost spots, and because on busy days customers need to take a shuttle from the state park beach, they want to build a new parking lot on the access road to Mt. Sunapee. Problem is, it's directly downhill from an antiquated sewage system of sprayfields and "lagoons" and local orgs say it threatens to contaminate Lake Sunapee if the lot create runoff or the septic system itself fails. Vail/Mt. Sunapee management did not reply to requests for comment by the deadline.

Local orgs are asking the DCNR to halt the project. No word yet; should know by end of June if the state will take any action.
