Utah Locals

Hi all:
My family (4yo, 7yo, 9yo, dh) and I usually ski Snowbird every year. However, I am considering Solitude this year. Reason? Price. Tickets for the family will be $899 vs. $1300. Will I be disappointed with Solitude? My hubby is expert and I am advanced. My daughter skis blues and one son skis some blues. This is Snowbird. The young one is still in ski school.

Also, since my kids do take lessons occasionally. Have any information about Solitude's ski school?

Tell me about Solly!!!

I'm not really a local since i just moved here, and I've never skied Solitude or Brighton yet, but from what I've heard I think Brighton is supposed to be great for families? Solitude has more advanced terrain I believe. Both will be a lot less crowded than Snowbird. I'm sure someone who has skied them can be more help. I'm looking forward to checking both out!:ski2:

Aww come on. I know there are some of you that ski Solly. Let a lady know!

BTW, thanks for the reply Wendy. You'll love Utah.

I'm sorry, I know nothing about Solitude. You'll want either DLove or Trady to tell you more. I think DLove is in Jackson (according to her recent posts) so you may have to wait for her to return.

If you wanted Alta info, I'm your girl.

You can't go wrong with either Soli or Brighton for families. Both are family-friendly. Having hosted at both, I have no reservations about recommending either.

Brighton pros

Brighton's ski school is the best for young kids and the terrain/groomers are perfect for the young ones. Twilight and night skiing are also benefits for young skiers.

Soli pros

Fewer boarders (Brighton is sort of a mecca for the boarder set)---but most tend to congregate in "Candyland"--the terrain park, which I avoid.

Hope this helps.

I would definitely give Soli the nudge, especially if there are no boarders in your family. In terms of terrain for the advanced and expert - you can explore Honeycomb Canyon, Evergreen, Fantasy Ridge, and Middle Slope for a long time and still find new stuff.

Although, Brighton has some great terrain off Milly and Great Western. You'll find the powder tends to stick around in BCC a lot longer than it does in LCC.
