Personally, I don't think conveyors are easier esp for a beginner. I understand they are supposed to make it easier to load but they make me nervous!!
My home mountain was one of the first in the southeast to install a new lift (old one dated from the 1970s) with conveyor loading. The beginners had less trouble loading than before so that that fixed grip quad could be run faster. The old double ran very, very slowly.

When Alta retrofitted conveyor loading on the old Supreme triple (since replaced), it was the expert skiers who couldn't figure out how to load it. Intermediates did fine. No green terrain off Supreme. So that fixed-grip lift could be run a bit faster and the lift didn't stop as often because someone messed up trying to load.

There is conveyor loading for the 8-pack Ramcharger lift at the base of Big Sky. Having people in their separate lanes before they are deposited to load the load is useful. That's a different type of conveyor loading than that used for a quad beginner lift.

Less is more for conveyor loading. Idea is to just slide slowly onto the moving belt and stand still.

Solitude announced a closing day, with the tease of a potential bonus weekend. Sent out an email on April 7. Solitude has spring hours Fri-Sun. Only a few lifts are still running.

Snowbird has an offer for their season pass holders to bring two friends for $75 each during late season.

Snowbird is hosting the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 11, 3-9pm, with a party afterwards. Tickets are $375.

The annual Alta Earth Day event is Sat, April 11.

There is a fundraising drawing that has pretty good prizes that were donated. One year I saw 2-3 pairs of skis that people won. Have to be present to win. Or at least have a friend with the winning ticket there to pick it up. Employees who work at the various businesses at Alta often enter so may be working when the announcements are made.

Storm skied Alta yesterday (with one lightening hold) & Snowbird today (mostly sunny). Showed up at both ready for action by 9:30. Both were amazing & the snow was not sticky or icy at any point. Deep fluffy powder all over snowbird with lots of fresh lines everywhere most of the morning. Pretty skied-out & deep in mineral bowl by late morning; heavier moving around noon. Tomorrow should be another fantastic day!

Thanks for the first-hand comments! I saw a few pictures on another ski forum from the last couple days.

By the way, when you have posted a bit more then you'll be able to see the Meet On The Hill (MOTH) thread that I started a little while ago. I and several other traveling Divas will be staying at Alta Lodge next week.

Do you only ski LCC midweek for powder days? Do you ever ski Alta on weekends?
Apologies for my late response. Down with another cold & I was supposed to go back to Snowbird today.

Thanks for directing me to the other thread. I’m still trying to get oriented the tech on this.

To answer your questions, I try to avoid weekends bc I fear being hit. I had not skied Alta or Snowbird in over 20 years until last week. I live in Park City & have been able to enjoy the proximity of DV & PCMR for the last 10 years or so (save the epic 22/23 season when I was recovering from back surgery). I’m fortunate to have been here long enough to become a ‘snow snob’ but still purchase a quiver that allows me to ski whatever conditions. That being said, this snow snob loves powder & trees, but also beautiful fluffy corduroy runs that make THAT sound, if you know what I mean. I’m allergic to ice & crowds.
Even with 24 days this year, I did not get a satisfactory fix so that’s why I ventured over to LCC. Totally worth it & hope to get well & get over to Snowbird one more time before it’s over. Alta is economical with fantastic skiing but I really like having more runs & a dedicated place to store stuff/sit down to put my boots on. I’m a newbie to LCC so if that dedicated prep place exists at Alta, Idk where it is. It’s so beautiful over there & I would like to ski those resorts more often.

The good locker room is at the Albion base. It's in the ski school building on the top level. The door is to the right of the ski school office. That's where @Scribble parks and boots up. Also where I park when I stay in Sandy instead of at Alta Lodge.

I'm fine leaving stuff in a free cubby. There are also pay lockers in that locker room.

To get back at the end of the ski day, can take the elevator up.

Last night was the warmest yet this week. This morning is the first with cloud cover and no sun on the top of Baldy at 7am. May be short ski day with everyone staying at Alta Lodge off the slopes after lunch.

I skied until after 4:00 yesterday because I had a lesson starting at 1:30. At 3:30, decided it was still worth continuing for another hour. We spent most of the lesson on the Collins side. Finished with a run down Devil's Elbow and Home Run. Good way to learn how to manage very soft snow. I was working with Arthur Haskell, who I and friends have worked with for years at this point. Had a couple of friends join in who have worked with him before as well.

Cooler weather and a bit more snow coming in the next few days to LCC/BCC.

As of this morning, April 11, the wind hasn't picked up yet. Only at 9 mph at the Top of Collins based on info on the Alta website as of 6am MT.

The skiing in the mornings has been good all week at Alta for people who follow the sun. Above the Collins mid-station, there has been fun snow for advanced skiers after lunch until 2:30 or 3:00. Even though it was warmer last night, Mambo was quite firm first thing in the morning yesterday.

Mineral Basin has been too soft by 11:30 or so all week. People with Ikon have popped over for a few runs first thing in the morning by going through the Alta/Snowbird gate at the top of Sugarloaf.

From Alta website on April 11:

I was supposed to be volunteering at this event today but it was cancelled due to the "wrong kind of precipitation" and thunderstorms in the forecast. :(

Definitely not the right type of weather.

There were two lift holds for lightning in the early afternoon. The last lightning situation led to closing for the day around 3:30.

The skiing in the morning was still fun. Definitely cooler than the past week. I and my ski buddies all opted to wear insulated jackets. I started with shell pants in the morning and switched to my insulation Nobody's Princess pants after lunch. Since it rained at least a little even at the top of Collins, the top of Mambo and the Supreme cat track were quite slick mid-afternoon during the hour or so that lifts were running.

Skiing off Supreme was good all day today. That included certain places off-piste, including Cabin Hill. What was slick yesterday afternoon because of rain was nicely groomed out. Heading to Sugarloaf from the top of Collins first thing was fine. Sunnyside trails were good then too. A bit windy riding up Sugarloaf, but overall not too bad.

Didn't feel cold that cold when the wind wasn't blowing but glad I brought my insulated jacket and pants.

As of 10pm April 12, it's snowing! :snow:
