Utah LCC/BCC April 2025 conditions - Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, Brighton

As I've been doing for 15+ years, soon I'll be meeting up with old friends and making new friends at Alta Lodge in April. A few traveling Ski Divas will be around after April 6 as well. May only ski Alta since I have an Alta Senior Pass this season. However, Wasacht Benefits mean I get a free day (M-Th) at Snowbird and Brighton so could end up there. At least will wander over to Snowbird one morning when Mineral Basin is open.

I tend to pay attention to Alta with OpenSnow all season since it's my favorite resort out west. Of course, late season conditions can vary quite a bit. One of my NC ski/travel buddies is in SLC this week. He and his buddies are staying in Sandy and will have to decide where to drive to after the big snow coming soon.

Closing day for Alta is April 20. Snowbird will be open longer with limited lifts and terrain. I expect Solitude to stay open longer as well. Per usual, Brighton won't announce a closing date until later.

The early April snowstorm has started! I expect the season total to go over 500 inches before the storm cycle is over.

The temperature mid-mountain was 30º at noon mid-mountain on March 31 and fell to 17º by midnight when there was over 8 inches already. The first inch recorded for the storm was at 1:00pm on Monday afternoon. The high forecast for Tuesday, April 1 is 19º.

The storm total in the last 24 hours as of 5pm on April 1 is 21 inches. Looks like the snow stopped at lunch time. The season total went to 503 inches.

Didn't have a chance to look at what terrain was opened by ski patrol when lifts were running today. Noticed that the High T, Ballroom, Supreme Bowl, and Catherine's were scheduled for this morning. Looks like Devil's Castle stayed closed, which is normal for this sort of storm.

Crazy winter-like weather in the Western mountains. A couple of feet at Mammoth. This major Utah storm. I'm in Keystone and it's been snowing for more than 30 hours.

Wherever you're skiing in the West tomorrow you're gonna have a good time.

Mammoth just posted this link:

Sorry @marzNC for the thread hijack.

Feels like the storm is over in the Wasatch, although the storm total included an inch that fell yesterday late afternoon. For sure the base depth is up to 150 inches and the season total is over 500 inches. Not likely to make another milestone number before Closing Day on April 20. The stats are about the average for early April.

As of 7am, Summer Road, Mt. Baldy, Devil's Castle, and East Castle are showing as Closed on the terrain status list, while everything else is showing as Scheduled for A.M. on the Alta website.

The cold temps are only going to last until the end of the week. Warming up into the 40s by next week.

Evan of OpenSnow and other forecasters were surprised by how much snow fell in LCC yesterday. :snow:

Ya it was an awesome storm. I ended up hitting Brighton yesterday with my snowboarder kid for a half day before the airport and it was so much fun.

A friend of mine was at Alta the day before and said it was the best time.

I didn’t expect much beyond sunny spring skiing when I first booked this oh boy was it a great spring break week. Glad I packed layers.

Given how warm it's going to be, could be a good day to do one of the naturalist tours at the Alta Earth Day event on Saturday, April 12.

After a week or more of spring skiing when often it wasn't worth skiing after 2:00 or 3:00, winter is back in LCC/BCC. The high on Friday is forecast to be 18 degrees! Already down to 19º by 5pm this afternoon.

By 10am, the snow level had dropped to about 6500 ft. I know because I was riding down canyon to the airport about then.

According to Bill it was snowing in the evening at the base for a bit. He'll be at Alta Lodge until Closing Day, April 20.

Starting snowing hard again at Alta around 5:00am, April 18. Temps in the teens as forecast.

Ski patrol plans to open High T, Catherine's, Supreme Bowl during the morning. Ballroom, Backside, Devil's Castle show as "closed" for today. There will be plenty of traffic on Saturday morning if it looks like those areas will open tomorrow.

Closing Day is April 20 and parking reservations are required. Have heard that people are carpooling so much on Closing Day that it's been feeling even more crowded than before parking reservations were implemented by Alta Lift Co. and the Town of Alta.

With such a big storm on Thursday into Friday, I imagine Saturday, April 19 there will be plenty of traffic in LCC and BCC. Every area but East Castle and Mt Baldy is slated to open at Alta.

Don't know what the deal is for parking at Solitude and Brighton this weekend. Alta did not require parking reservations on April 19. No spots available for April 20, which may have sold out a while ago. The parking reservation system is old news in LCC these days.

Temps forecasted to be in the 20s, with sunny skies.

Snowbird will be open until late May. Per usual, there will be limited services.

from Snowbird Snow Report, April 21:
"Conditions permitting, Snowbird will be spinning 4 lifts today, including the Aerial Tram, Mineral Basin, Chickadee and Little Cloud. Wilbere, Mid-Gad, Gadzoom, Gad 2, Baldy Express, the Alta/Bird Connection, Baby Thunder, Baby Thunder Conveyor and Chickadee Conveyor are now CLOSED for the season. Peruvian and the Peruvian Tunnel will now run only Saturdays and Sundays for the remainder of the season. "

Alta closed on April 20. Overall, not a bad season from a snowfall standpoint although lower totals than last season.

I'm coming out to Utah for my foster daughter's graduation. Worthwhile with the conditions bringing skis for a day of skiing this Thursday?

A bit past April, but wanted to note that Snowbird is not the only LCC/BCC resort spinning lifts in May 2025. Solitude has clearly become a 4-season resort with an extended ski season when Mother Nature cooperates. Mountain biking starts up mid-June.
