Hi Divas!

I wanted to get the word out to the Utah Divas about the 2008 Ski Affair. The Ski Affair is the annual fundraiser for The Utah Ski Archives, which is a non-profit foundation housed at the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah (www.skiarchives.org), of which, I am a member of the advisory board. The Ski Archives' mission is to preserve the history of skiing in the intermountain region (Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana) as well as the evolution of the ski industry through photos, manuscripts, oral histories, scrapbooks and The Archives is the official repository for the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Bid records. If you like the old skiing photos in the Mountain Chalet catalog --- that's what we're all about. Go look at our photo collections on the website!

The Ski Affair will be held Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City and includes a cocktail hour/social, silent auction, buffet dinner, program and historymaker award presentation. This year, we'll be honoring the University of Utah Ski Team in it's 60th year. The Affair draws hundreds of people every year, and this year, we are expecting ~600!

If you're interested in attending the event, PM me with your mailing address and I'll get an invitation sent to you. And if you have any questions about the event, or if you're interested in donating to our silent auction, please let me know. Thanks Divas! *Think Snow!*

Alex, thanks for posting this looks super interesting, I wish I were near enough to attend. A question or few for you though. First, there are a number of links when looking through the sample photos that are broken. Also, you mentioned in your post including Idaho, Wyoming and Montana where can I find things about those areas? What age photos are you looking for for the collection?

I forgot to mention that some of the links are broken. The Marriott Library is in the middle of an ENORMOUS expansion/renovation and a lot of the servers have been moved around, so we are in the process of fixing the website.

As for searching photos from the Intermountain area, here are some directions:

Start here: https://content.lib.utah.edu/cdm4/search.php
Under "Find Results" type in the state or area you're looking for (or skier for that matter).
Then, under "select specific collections" move all of the "University of Utah Photo Archives" (one - seven) into the "selected collections category and then click the blue "search" button. This will then bring up anything in the overall U of U photo archives, and those photos belonging to The Ski Archives will be marked as such.

If you want to donate photo collections to the Archives, you can do so through Special Collections @ the Library. Their phone number is 801-581-8046. They generally look for collections related to skiing history moments in the Intermountain Region from the beginning (late 1800s) through now.

And if you're interested in donating items to our silent auction, we get items in lots of categories: electronics, jewelry, apparel, sporting goods (Rossignol sponsors the event ), sports activities, restaurants, etc. So if you'd like to support us through a donation sponsorship, your donation is tax-deductible.

I hope I covered all the questions. Let me know if you're curious about anything else.

I'll look through my photos from my childhood in Idaho and see if there's anything interesting. Dad was the head coach of the ski team at Bogus from 77-87ish.
