Is there something you did last season (06-07) that you didn't expect to do at the beginning of the year?

I can think of three things:

1) I started tree skiing, which I hadn't really thought about before. And I had a blast! I had no idea what I'd been missing!
2) I bought a pair of powder skis. We don't get too much call for them here in the east, but it's sure nice to have them sometimes!
3) Went up to Jay Peak for a great weekend of skiing with some of the Divas. A terrific time in some fantastic conditions (40+ inches of the best powder! The result of which was #2 above)

What about you?

I had only planned on one Ski get away for the season, but had hoped more would happen.
As it turned out, I got away for three long weekend ski get aways.

Since this was the first time I'd skied outside of Michigan, it was a HUGE year for me. I guess I got a taste of the good stuff and got a bit carried away! :yahoo:

The most unexpected (and delightful) ski-related event of this past season was discovering SkiDiva.com!
:grouphug:

Other unexpecteds: becoming a ski equipment gear geek, joining a gym after the season ended to train for next ski season, finding Epic.com and Epic Ski Academy, and thinking of myself as being "athletic" and having a "sport."

I skied in the hottest weather ever. By early March it was mid-60s. I never thought I would ever ski in just pants & shirt. But it was great!

1) Became part of TheSkiDiva.com family
2) Bought and raced on full blown race stock GS skis and loved them :race: .
3) Bought and skied on twin tip fatties and loved them too (my biggest surprise of the year)

1. I got a new job, which allowed me to take 2 weeks off in Utah and glom onto a friend's ski trip while between jobs (although, now that I think about it, I actually applied for the job in November and hoped I'd get the job, and if so, the switch would be in the winter so I could take time off to ski...). But I didn't know that I'd actually go anywhere, or when!

2. I really didn't think the best snow I'd ski would be in upstate NY after the Valentine's Day blizzard.

3. Totally did not expect to ski at Whitetail, PA....and meet a woman who started work at my office only two weeks prior. And un-skiing-related, I really didn't think that she lost the bid on a rowhouse to my new co-worker's fiance.

4. Didn't think I'd come out of the season with new skis.

5. Had no idea I'd find and join skidiva.com and meet a few divas (albeit, not on the slopes).

1) A trip to Switzerland wasn't part of the plan in December but became reality in March -- good

2) Got lucky with HUGE fluffy dumps in Switzerland -- GREAT!

3) Broke my old boot and bought new one that cost more than I budgeted for -- not so good

4) "Twicked" my knee slightly and ended my season in March when the snow kept coming down in April! -- really sad...

5) Went back country touring on tele gear and got HOOKED!!!

------------
#1 was always part of my dream, just the timing was unexpected.
#2 was pure luck
#3 was totaly unplanned and undesirable but tolerable :(
$4 was undesirable but somewhat expected as luck would have it.
#5 marks the begining of a new era!!! :D

1) Same here, but in December! The mtn shut down day before Xmas and didnt reopen until mid January.

2) Bought new boots and (after much work) they actually fit really well and perform like they should.

3) Bought new skis due to unexpected low cost of boots (prior season Jr race boots = bargain!!), so new skis fit into the budget too. :eyebrows:

4) Had a patroller friend ask me "where did you learn to ski like that?" :becky:

Had my best season ever in terms of vertical feet skied, position on Big Vertical list, new trails visited, a couple of what I would call "tactical" improvements when skiing steeps and trees. Then I hit a tree. First serious injury in 35 years of skiing and only the second fall of the season. That was unexpected.:fear:
