Type of ads I keep seeing

Unfortunately, there's little I can do about the content of the ads. They're fed into the site based on certain keywords, and believe it or not, none of the ones I submitted to Google have anything to do with either sex or dating. Maybe they just picked up on the word "women;" I don't know. In any case, I've tried submitting complaints to Google for some of them, with little results. My ultimate goal is to sell site specific ads, which would replace the Google ads, but in the meantime, there's little else I can do.

Please know that the ads aren't here to irritate anyone and I'll continue to try to get rid of the ones that are most annoying. I only have ads to help fund the site, which operates entirely out of my own pocket. I'm not complaining -- I'm just stating this so you understand why they're there in the first place. They don't contribute much, but the little they do helps offset the expenses.

If you would care to PM me identifying the ads you find most offensive, I'll try (again) submitting these to Google.

I am now hitting the feedback button on the lower left every time one comes up that isn't related to skiing. There was some orange and brown sex thing yesterday that was embarassing to have my husband see while he was in the office. Today it's the Love Button.

I understand why they are there, but can they be moved to be at the bottom of the screen somehow?

They're at the top of the page because that's where they're the most visible. And if an ad is visible, it tends to get clicked. And the more clicks, the more pennies go to the site.

I think you have a good idea -- hitting the feedback button. I filed a complaint with Google, also, regarding the Love Button ad. Hopefully, that'll help.

That said, it's really still the off season so we get ads for all kinds of weird stuff now. Things tend to get more ski-related once the snow flies, since that's when more of those things are advertised.

True. Should've mentioned that.

Funny but true; my husband is reading a book called "King of the Cats." It's a biography of Adam Clayton Powell, a congressman from Harlem in the 60s. He posted a review of it on Goodreads.com, and now ads for cat litter and cat food are showing up on the page!

HAHA, We must be talking about injuries a lot lately!!!:injured:

I just got on SkiDiva to find the top ad:

Anterior Hip Replacement

I didn't pay attention to the whole ad, but I think it was for a live webcast or live tv broadcast on a medical site or channel.
Or, maybe its because we're all getting old.

Anyone need a new hip?

An ad I've seen the past few days has been for an organization that provides free breast cancer screening for those who need it.

Look at how our words can make a difference!!!

That one is a good match. In fact, most of the ads I see are a good match.

It is in sharp contrast to a mom's group I belong to, in which we talk about cloth diapering, and used to get lots of ads for adult incontinence products. . . and adult fetish diapers.

Used to get ads like that A LOT on a cloth diapering site I used to belong to.

Yeah, the ads can be annoying. But anything that helps defray the costs for Ski Diva is ok in my book. :D

Any body else getting sick of Tom Cruise and his 25 yr DVD?? Geez, I though the V-cup ad was bad. In most cases I ignore the ads, but sometimes they get on my nerves!!

I haven't been getting Tom Cruise. Recently it's been "Meet single Arabs!", and today for the first time I'm getting "The lesbian test".

What has the off season gotten us talking about on here?

Huh. I'm not getting these at all.

If there's something you find objectionable, do me a favor -- click on it and send me the url of the advertiser. I'll report it to Google Ads and see about getting it eliminated.

Just now:
Sugardaddie.com
Dates for the rich and famous

I'd rather not click on the link, have had some issues in the past with spyware.

Pretty smarmy stuff, agreed.

Well, Google ads I'm pretty sure look at things on the site not specifically what you are saying. It's gathering a demographic of women of all different ages with online dating mentioned. That's going to bring up dating sites and baby goods for sure. I wouldn't call it smarmy though. It's online dating, a fact of life for many who are trying to meet the perfect someone these days.

Man, I never see any of the funny ones. I just get boring ebay ski gear sales ads.

I get Toyota ads quite a bit... and I've been seeing this new Lucky Bums ad a lot today. It's outdoor gear for kids. I thought it was cute, so I clicked on it to encourage them post that instead of some others.

Anyone watch Spike TV? They constantly have commercials for these dating phone lines and natural male enhancing :chillpill: one after another! It's just crazy!

And we're just watching Voyager (star trek) on there, not anything questionable... Hmm... maybe I don't fall into Star Trek's normal demographics? :blah:
