whose coverage will you watch? there are so many to choose from. NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, FOX.....who have I missed?

Care to share what you will watch and why? Anyone going to be in Washington?

As much as I might like to watch some/all of it, I will most likely opt for NPR radio while i work all day. I if I turn the tube on during the day, I will get nothing done.

Inagural address = Noon EST.

Here's my fav event so far. I grew up on Pete Seeger ( and civil rights movement, and Vietnam protest...)

They are showing it on the movie screen in the auditorium of the federal building (I work for the government) so we're all going to watch it there, with a thousand other feds.

Unfortunately, I'll be at DS's music class during the actual inauguration and then a preschool tour, so I'll probably dvr it to watch during nap. I probably won't watch the coverage of the parties during primetime...I much prefer the biggest loser. :becky: I just want to see the coverage of the truly historical stuff, the actual inauguration and speeches.

Well your neighbours to the north are broadcasting too. I know CBC and CTV have people in Washington to cover it. I think I'll stream it here at work. Plus I want to see what Michelle wears!

You forgot PBS! Running home at lunch to catch the Obama swearing in and speech. But I really enjoyed PBS coverage the most during the election and will probably watch (and tape) that. We don't have cable/satellite, so that limits us.

So excited.

(and of course TODAY is the day hubby's company announces reduction in force...still waiting to here definitively, but rumors say he's okay...what a day to choose to tell people, eh?! :mad2:)

Me too! I haven't seen/heard any leaks on this either. And what the girls' wear. Hopefully it's better than the election night dress - I thought that was hideous.

Anyone going to be in Washington?

I live in the Virginia suburbs of Washington. All of the bridges over the Potomac into the District are closed to personal vehicles - only tour buses and limos allowed. The Metro (subway) opened today at 3:30 AM with trains starting at 4:00. Officials predicted all parking spaces at Metro stations would be gone by 5:30 AM. When we went into the District for fireworks on the 4th of July it took us 1 1/2 hours to take a 40 minute trip in body to body packed trains - and that was with about 500,000 people on the Mall. Numbers are expected to be in the 2 million range. They have closed a 150 block radius to all vehicle traffic in the District. Most D.C. businesses are closed today. The high temp is supposed to be 30 degrees - no backpacks, purses, strollers, etc allowed. Officials are limiting the crowds at certain venues and they predicted the parade route would hit capacity by 10:00 AM - and the parade starts around 2:30 PM!

If I lived in D.C., like Pequenita and HotChocolate I could maneuver much more easily (Pequenita is volunteering at the festivities today), but most people I have talked to in the VA suburbs realize how difficult it would be to actually attend. So I am at home (kids are off school), making soup, baking muffins, getting lots of little things done - with the TV on!

Today at Okemo was Okemobama Day. Lift tickets are $44 and the TV's in all the lodges are showing the inauguration.

Okemo is the King of PR.

I've had the TV on all afternoon, and have actually been touched by the inauguration.

One of my friends from ESA was flying out of Denver on Sunday and into Washington DC to attend in person. Wonder if I can see more here than he can there. Either way, we're all a part of something far bigger than we are.

I'm watching the dvr'ed coverage right now. What a huge and momentous occasion in American history. Wow. The spectacle is truly amazing.

I listened to the oath of office on NPR while we were on our way to DS's music class this morning. It was so stinking cute...every time the audience started cheering, DS started clapping along in the back seat! :becky:

two minutes to "BBC Today" on the radio. I love listening to their take on American politics

I watched CNN with a room full of 4th and 5th graders. Most of them really get it, how momentous this is. One girl said next time, hopefully, it will be a woman!

What a fun morning! We ended up watching it in a coffee shop that had a large screen tv (its owned by Italians and usually has soccer on)--it was very fun to watch with my coworkers and about 150 other downtown office workers. People cheered and got misty eyed and one of our landscape architects lost it with big heaving sobs.

Plus I want to see what Michelle wears!
I mostly only saw the coat (which I liked)--I couldn't really see her matching dress underneath.

We watched while getting ready to go skiing. I dragged my feet getting ready so I could see the swearing in. Since we're on Mtn time we could still get some good runs in.

We went to A-Basin. It was the perfect ski day, warm weather, blue skies and no skiers, the place was deserted!

I found this musical presentation particularly moving. It's an arrangement of Aaron Copeland's "Appalachian Spring," featuring Itzhak Perlman and Yo-Yo Ma.
