Triple 8 Old School Audio Helmet

I've been helmet shopping for around a week now, and I came across one tonight that I like, that has a feature I wanted (in-helmet audio speakers), and that is surprisingly inexpensive...it seems to fit me well, of course...that was the first qualification. That helmet is the one in the subject line: Triple 8's Old School Audio Helmet. I like the style of it, because it reminds me of when I used to skateboard as a teen.

But...here's the thing...it's retailing (pre-discounts) for around $60, and most ski helmets I've seen are $100+ retail. Am I missing out on some feature by getting this one? It just seems ridiculously cheap for a helmet with audio built in. I'm worried that I'm buying one that either is poorly insulated or unsafe because of the price. Does anyone have this one or know someone who does? I can't find reviews anywhere. :(

I've never heard of that helmet. I do know that one thing to look for is the safety compliance stickers. Recreational helmets should have the ASTM F2040 sticker and racing helmets should have the EN 1099 sticker.

For what it's worth, I couldn't find any certification info on this helmet, and I eventually deduced that it's just a very basic helmet, hence the low price. I went back and tried it on again, having more research under my belt on how a helmet should fit, and I didn't like it as much.

So, I ended up nixing this one from the possibilities list. If anyone else finds this thread and is curious, my research led me to believe that this is roughly the equivalent of a $20 bike helmet. It'll offer protection, but it hasn't been through the rigor that the high-end helmets have, and it's not as lightweight or comfy for the long haul.

Info from your link says it "meets the ASTM standard". Meets or is certified at that standard? I think that this is skateboard helmet with a little insulation to call it a snow helmet. I think you might be right to nix it!
