Ski Diva Extraordinaire
I have been very, very fortunate over the last 3 days. Vail is an absolutely incredible resort with so much varied terrain that one can ski for many days without getting close to being bored.
On Wednesday, Christmas Eve I arrived mid-morning and met up with a couple of Epic Bears and skied Game Creek Bowl, China Bowl, Mid-Vail, Blue Sky and Lionshead.
On Thursday, Christmas Day, I started off alone (by choice) and did laps in Game Creek and China Bowls (where I had my bout with vertigo). At lunch time I met up with one of the Bears from the day before and a couple other Bears who I've skied with a couple of other times. The sun came out so we headed back into China Bowl for a couple of laps and then they showed me a run in Northwoods that I've not done before and fell in love with. Thank you D&B!!!
Today I met up with a friend that got me into coaching and we started as usual in Game Creek. However, she showed me another area that I hadn't discovered and found myself in a wide open glade with shin to knee deep powder and a few soft bumps. After a few laps there we dropped into Sun Down Bowl which has been tough for me in the past. But today, it was like magic, all of the sudden this stuff is fun! We continued the day after meeting up with her DBF and his brother with some runs down my other new favorite in the Northwoods. As we got back to the top the wind started picking up and it got COLD with very little visibility. We dropped down Ramshorn staying close to the trees to be able to see where we were going. We headed back up the #3 lift and started at the ridge line to head back toward the Cascade Village. HOLY MOLY!!!!! That wind was so severe coming over the ridge that we couldn't see the fencing to our near left to guide our route and it was so brutally cold that I feared frostbite in the couple of minutes I had to uncover my mouth and nose to breathe. We finished the day heading down Simba and over to Cascade.
Here are a few photos from Wednesday. One of the Bears took some action shots on Thursday so when I get those I'll add them.
Mount of the Holy Cross
Storm is coming in!
Don't ask what I'm doing with my hands
but this is in Blue Sky toward the end of a great day!
